So what, exactly, is stopping you? The mirrors challenge has inspired me. I have close to 20 ideas running around like mad in my head.
If the reason is that you just don't feel you want to compete against the type of photography like in the examples you've posted, well, I guess we'll just have to miss whatever inspired entry you would have come up with had you focused more on inspiring yourself than complaining about the status quo. |
I'm not sure what is stopping me. If you have so many ideas shoot me a pm and let me have some of them.

By all means have at it, I'm not speaking for everyone just myself and personally I don't think the challenges lately have been any good.

Abstract black and white portrait of a mirror!
Upside down affluent wildlife living in poverty!
Accidental Long Color exposure of a letter!
At work in suburbia in pajamas!
OK, how about something simple.
Chartreuse.
Shadow at night
Night sky in color
Rainbows!
Unicorns!
A Nude Bicycling in the Studio (Landscape)
and of course the other choice would be
A Nude Bicycline in the Landscape (portrait)
Porn without people (or woodys)

Aren't there enough suggestions already? I don't think I need to add to that endless space. Everyone else is doing just fine with suggestions, besides if I come up with an idea it will get shot down anyway, hahahaha No one likes the way I think.

Careful.
You're not speaking for all the customers here.
Yeah, there are a lot of topics/subjects that I think suck......because they would make me step outside my comfort zone, make more effort that I want to expend, take more talent than I have......
That's why I stick around.....the more I see the challenge entries for the ones I think suck, the more I think I'll do something the next time.
Dolls & Puppets???? WTF?????

Awesome! Taught me what can be done with vision, inspiration, & talent.
Go ahead.....gimme a sucky subject, maybe this time I'll take a crack at it.
Oh, and....... .
I'm not sure why the derisive tone over this powerful and evocative image. It's gutsy, EXTREMELY well done.....just an all 'round great image.
With my own personal history, I could probably state that this is in bad taste, but it's very stark and real. A ribbon well won, IMO.
That's life.

- There are never enough suggestions. Stop copping out.
Originally posted by Dirt_Diver: I don't think I need to add to that endless space. |
- Be proactive, not reactive.

- self-fulfilling defeatist prophecy now eh? Give me something in that head of yours that is anything but complaining about your personal opinion on what the challenges are, and I bet you'll get a lot more people behind you on it ;) |

Everyone is free to pick and choose which challenges they enter. There's always a free study, and other sites to submit to. To me entering challenges is just an exercise to practice the craft. When you look at it that way, the creative ideas are endless. No one says we have to be literal in the interpretations of each challenge. I have suffered mightily lately with a creative block so maybe I don't have room to talk. Kiss Savannah for me Joe....; ) |

I never said anything bad about this image, I think you misunderstood me. I was saying that there will be a lot of these in the mirror challenge.

You're right they are free to pick and choose which challenges they want to enter and that is why I haven't entered some of the challenges here lately and those I did enter I entered to get the entry points for the DPCO-III. I have 2 images that I entered to just enter and because of my lack of interest in the challenges I am suffering for it. I have no have my 2nd and 3rd lowest scores in my port.
Could have I come up with something more interesting? Sure if I had something interesting to think about I guess. I thought about this motion blur challenge all week and couldn't come up with anything good. Then I decided to take a last day shot and enter it. Being a blur challenge I thought blur would do good but I'm at a 4.18 what's that say?
Creativity is what I'm lacking, why am I lacking creativity??? Because there is no interest in challenges. Why you ask? Because I PERSONALLY think that the recent challenges were poorly picked.

If YOUR creativity is lacking, I daresay it is not the site's fault.
It is not dpc's primary purpose to provide YOU inspiration and creative ideas -- that would be something that needs to come intrinsically.
DPC provides an outlet for those times when you are inspired.
The last SMOKE challenge was in 2004 -- about 1.5 years before you even registered here.
IT is not a repeat for you.
Ditto for the last mirror challenge.
If you are concerned about your port here, don't enter just to be entering. Again, that is not dpc's fault. If your motion blur score is scoring lower than you think it should, again, is that dpc's fault?
Need more inspiring challenges? Do a forum search for photography contests and make yourself a list of all the sites that have photo challenges. Then, you can cruise through each of them, submit when you get inspired, but when it is not that particularly inspiring to you, you can move on to the next one. I daresay, no site is going to inspire you 100% of the time, but by combining 8 or 10, your muse will probably collapse from exhaustion.

Thanks but I already am a member of 6 other photography sites and I submit to them as well. I also think you are over shooting here.

Elly, the 4 year old, will often state that she's bored or doesn't have anything to do. However, as soon as I begin to list activities or explain different ways that she can relieve that boredom, she'll get this panicked look in her eyes like the mere thought of having to do any work whatsoever of her own volition is alien to her. Quite often, this will end in frustration for me, and tears for her, simply because I've started with "Well, if you're bored, why don't you...", ending with, "I don't have to do anything!" (stomping and screaming all the way to her room).
Ahhh, four year olds.
