I like the photo. It's well done. But I think you would have taken a beating on it not fiting the topic.

I ran your photo through my DP Users Opinion Emulator and got the following response:

Of the comments, 2 of them mentioned problems with the cropping, 5 questioned the relation to the theme, and 18 said "nice shot".

After how poorly I did in the Surprise challenged, I decided to sit this one out as well.

I would have probably have ranked this shot my favorite out of all that were submitted for the challenge. Especially mine. Mine sucks! Seriously! LOL :-)

Awesome Shot, EddyG!

Soup - I like the third one over best composition-wise
The branch on the right frames the subject and anchors it too.

IMAGE_ID=49262

I like the clarity of the first one you posted -It feels so cold, yet the smoothness of the ice lets you know its meling. The blue light feels like early morning - could you do one where it was the last one's crop with the first one's color?

When I fist saw the thumbnail I thought it was a picture of chickadees on a branch.

Where is VT do you hail from? My folks have a place in Starksboro. Was pretty warm there this Thanksgiving,

Great!
Love the contrast between the melting ice and the raspberry prickles.
Congrats on the new house!

all i did to change it was desaturate, and used selctive color to brighten the whites a tad.

thanks again, nice view (mt mansfield/camels hump) 3 acres
not in a development!

starksboro is elevated, no?

I like all of these, unfortunate that you didn't enter.

I did one as well but used layers to achieve effect (not DPC legal)

Thumbnail won't show but link works...

Thanks for the comments on the photo!

I played around with the shot a bit more this evening and came up with this variation. I converted to B&W, and cropped in a bit closer.

Do you like the original crop or the close-in crop?
Do you like the color version or the B&W version?

Thanks for any comments!

I like so many of the color version, but the crop close-in is more interesting! The softness are more sensible in color and the shallow DOF background are more atractive and rings are more eye-rising, although not distrating.

Any of that don´t apear to be soft focused to me. I can see many high details tipical of sharp focus. The BW gives some softness dispersing color contrasts but it apear to be very sharp to consider a soft focus.
