What went wrong with this photo?
I appreciate any CC anyone willing to give me on this shot. I personally thought it would do better than some of my other FS shots done this year, but I was mistaken.
Thanks
Jaime

For me I think it is fairly well shot, the nose may be a little soft but overall the detail is very good especially in the eyes. Not sure I would have scored it much higher just based on the subject, I find it interesting to look at but would not be a shot I look at and say wow I want one of those. |

Ribbit.
Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm not the best one to respond, I gave it a 7. I loved the symmetry. I'm sure you'll get some who were bothered by the OOF nose; I wasn't. It may also be a little dark for some, and again, I didn't think so. I think it did deserve better than a 5.7. |

My first impression was that it seemed just a hair dark |

It seems a bit dark to me, too. I also think it would benefit from truly filling the frame. The little bits of background at the top annoy me. Also also, the big ol' OOF nose really dominates the shot for me, and it's not very appealing. I usually love a nice shallow DOF, but I just can't get past the huge nose. I didn't vote on it, but I would probably give it a 5. Other than that, great shot! :) |

I played with it a bit, then noticed the "reuse prohibited" so won't post it or anything.
I think, for dpc anyway, and for me, too, in this case, that a bit brighter, a bit more vivid/saturated green, and a warmer overall cast might have made a difference--but one can never tell. I suspect the oof nose, since it is so large a percentage of the total image, put some folks off, too. I think you just post what you like, in any case--that is what I want to see here: the diversity of subjects, styles, visions are what make this site great.
And, full disclosure: yours placed nearly 200 (count em!) places higher than my entry, scored a full point higher than mine, and the average by commenters on yours was more than 3 points higher than on mine. So the real question would be Why Would You Care What I Think? :-) |

Constructive critique is welcome by everyone - Jamie asked and am sure he appreciates everybodies views ;)
As for the coyrigt, yes its there tostop reuse however if a member asks for critique then your fine to play with the image (I believe) so, I think the above poters have pretty much nailed it Jamie and I'd say its pretty close to scoring much higher (if the comments above where fixed). Quick and dirty edit and I personally don't like this border but think it brings the focus to the right place - the eyes though still needs work on the overall colour I think. I didn't vote in the FS study and would have hummed and harred between a 6 and 7 I think and probably settled on a 6.

Thanks for the input. I always get stumped on the post processing on advance editing.
Never a happy medium I guess lol. Either too saturated or not bright enough. I seem to hit the mark when I do PP. I will get there one day ;) |

okay--so here is my quick 60 second PP--woefully inadequate but just for the gist
but this is still a take on what might have scored better--not that I think this is a better interpretation of the image. I still say do it your way.
