Very interesting. This article talks about the decline of the middle and it's impact on our government and society as a whole. The problem is that both parties have moved away from the middle and all anyone can do is shout at each other.

How political of him. I don't disagree overall with much of what he has to say, especially this :

"We've become a country that sits down in front of the boob tube and listens to people shouting about freedom, but now people equate freedom not with the acquisition of knowledge but with comfort," Gilchrest says. " 'Give me my flat-screen TV, the gas-guzzling car, the goods made in China.' The whole concept of freedom has become the idea of comfort, with a complete lack of responsibility."

.....but the fact hat he waited until he is on his way out to throw around the dislike for his own party dramatically diminishes his newfound heroism.

I want to have his children.

Phil-He didn't wait. He was shooed-out because he was out of step with them and they didn't like it. His rankling lost him his seat.

Cool. Do you have a collection of these types of comments he made against his own party before he was voted out?

I don't disagree with the man but if anyone believes that the problems with this country can't be blamed on both parties (along with lazy Americans) then.....

He peed in the right-wing punch bowl long before he got voted out. That's how he lost his party's support when a candidate came along who hold tighter to the neo-con hard line came along.

Hmm, sounds like Liebermann who lost his party's support when a candidate came along who held tighter to the left wing Liberal nutjobs, eh?

I hope anyone talking about the need for personal responsibility is listening to Sarah Palin tonight. lol.

"How dare they lend us more money than we need!"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

(also, please don't say "darn right" anymore, K?)

To be fair, Biden isn't doing or saying anything spectacular either.

Is it just me, or is Palin talking about whatever she wants without regard to the question or to what Biden just said?

Pretty much, and she admits to it too.

What a maverick!

(god, I'm sick of that word.)

But I want to talk about energy, damn it!! Doesn't she have a position on anything else?

What planet is this lady on?

"I don't want to argue about the causes, but we have to clean up the planet."

How are you supposed to do that if you refuse to understand what the causes are? lol

She was doing that with the 20/20 interview a few weeks ago. I don't vote for many reasons but I would just like to let everyone know that I would vote for McCain if I knew that Palin wasn't going with him.

Okay I would also like to say that I have Tivo'd this whole thing and I'm watching it now... I am in the show on the second or third question and I have to say that I am already tired of her staring at the camera like she is addressing the union. I am sick of the way she looks at camera and the things she says.. "Darn right", "reform", "Good old boys". Ughhhh This lady makes me want to smack the shit out of her.

I finally had to switch over to the Canadian debate. I just couldn't take it anymore.

In any other country the McCain/Palin ticket would simply be laughed out of politics. McCain not so much, but add Palin, and it's a comedy of errors the like I've seldom seen.

She really has been, but so has Biden, he's just a bit more smooth about it because he's been doing it for 30 years. They both avoid the other persons attacks, its just a matter of who does it better.

Elizabeth May is one smart cookie. I didn't know that the US VP debate was the same night as the anglophone leaders debate. If we had true representative government in Canada, I'd vote Green, but as it is, I'll stick with Liberal.

I think both candidates avoided major mistakes and got their message across to their base. The question is how the independents will view things.

I think Biden missed one of those zinger moments at the very end. This is purely the "game" of debate rather than any superior position, but the dems have really tried to hammer that McCain is "out of touch" with the middle class. One one of the very last questions the two were asked what they brought to the VP position and the ticket. Palin answered her executive experience and her connection with middle class america. Joe could have responded that Palin's assertion that she brought connection with middle america to the ticket as proof that even she agrees John McCain is "out of touch". Could have been one of those "You are no Jack Kennedy" moments.

Ultimately, both played to a draw.

I just don't think we need Palin in office. She is not the right person and I can just see her screwing things up even more. What I understood from all the BS we watched last night was that MaCain/Palin plan to keep the bush ideas and keep things just as they are with some minor modifications. I don't put the blame on bush for running our country into the ground but I do think him being in office has made a drastic effect on the economy. I don't see much of a difference with MaCain. I think at this point I would vote for DARKWING DUCK (you know you you are)...

I guess I'll catch the recap on The Daily Show, The Late Show, The Soup, And any other show that makes fun of these idiots...

There was a Canadian debate, first I hear of it. Ok I heard about it 5 minutes ago on a news site but I didn't know last night.

I watched 10 minutes of the debate on BBC and I could see right through this woman like she was glass. She has this trailer trash quality I can't put my finger on. I hope and sincerely wish that the American people will see through her veil of lies and made up political propaganda and do the right thing in Nov. Please please please do not vote for this woman and her relic of a boss, McCain. The world has gone through 8 years of watching your president screw up what the 41 prior presidents worked on for 224 years and now these two are going to continue doing that for another 4 years if elected. I hope Americans will join together and come to an understanding that the Republican platform is only a platform of power, period. They want it at any cost and what scares me is that they may just get it with all their lies and their ignorance.

Do the right thing!

Republicans want less power in the government, giving more power to the people, and the Democrats want more power in the government. With the way our government handles things, I'm thinking the less power they have the better.

I agree. I do believe that Biden was somewhat at a disadvantage (here comes the sex card) because if he would've "got after her" he would've labeled as being a bully or domineering.

I don't think either shined or failed. They did enough to get by and both did their share of deflecting. She did a better job than she has in the last few television interviews but I really got the feeling she was speaking more from memorization than actual knowledge on some of the issues.

Ryan, that's a traditional if simplistic view that no longer even holds water. You can't say the Republicans want less power in government at the same time they have increased governmental power beyond what the constitution intended. The last 8 years have been a power-grab by the party in power.

As for last night's debate, I thought Palin started out stiff and nervous but held on well. She loosened up nicely by the end. However, it still seemed like "statesman vs. cheerleader" (sorry, marverick/outsider).

This is not a political point, but did anyone else notice when she called him "O'Biden?"

Really? Has George W. Bush been a democrat all along? If what you're saying is true, he must be, since he's overseen the largest increase in the size and scope of goverment in this country's history.
