Could we have another Landscapes challenge around New Year? Lots of people have some time off, good opportunity to do some Landscapes.
Some Northern winter wonderland, Southern hemisphere summer and Middle Earth all year round good weather landscaping.

Oh and please include all kinds: natural landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, villagescapes....

Or am I being selfish? (I like landscapes but never have time for it) :)

Sounds like a good idea to me. I tend to avoid any challenge which I can't flex my landscape muscles for (no point entering rubbish just for the sake if it... am I in a minority here?).

Unfortunately though, landscapes tend to be quite personal. You may enter the best photo you have ever made and it might not get more than 4 points.

Ron.

As long as you get loads of comments on how to improve it a 4 doesn't matter. :)
It isn't easy to get everything right (interesting scene, composition -leading lines, shooting angle, wide or compressed by tele -, the right light -color temperature, shadows-, the right exposure in combination with the chosen aperture), etc.
It can't hurt if we practice it a lot here at dpc. And this way we see more of the world as well, without having to go on an actual trip. :)

Coming from an area where landscape is aweful at this time of the year. do you realize winter to some of us is a constant gray sky, usually mud til mid January sometime. I can see the comments now. UGLY, couldn't you have picked a nicer day the sky is so gray.

Oh please this is worse than another roadsign challenge in January.

The last landscape challenge we had was during the winter in the northern hemisphere... :)

Please wait until it warms up! To take those beautiful winter scenes you actually have to go out into the cold, wet winter, and it's so much more comfortable to sit indoors!

I agree, it will be hard to come up with a pleasing landscape right now around here. The weather is in-between a beautiful fall, and a snowy winter. Peak season landscapes are the right timing.

But I have an idea: how about a "Fall Landscape" challenge, and let us use our shots from Fall 2003? Then later, we can do a Winter landscape challenge.

There's been rumblings about photo quality here lately; well, if you want to see everyone's better photos, why not let them use the one's they've captured outside of a challenge window, when conditions were right!

Cause you aren't challenging anyone to go out and create something new you are allowing someone to just use something they had around.

I think that there is nothing wrong with returning landscapes challenges. Lets say 4 times a year, one for every season.

Even in the winter a lot of people can create wonderful stuff. You don't have to participate in every challenge, but therefore it could be a real challenge to find something so that you can*. I am having some real trouble with that lately, havent participated for the last 2.5 months.... I don't complain, I also enjoy the voting and since a few weeks also the commenting again. It is just, from both a participating as a voting perspective, that I think stuff like portraiture and landscapes (the fundamentals of photography subjects) should be covered more often / at least four times a year. No fancy subject, just straight landscapes and portraiture.

There is nothing wrong with a landscape challenge during the winter, just need to wait til the true season. Right now there is a inbetween season here and several other places. It improves greatly in mid January once there is snow. But as of now I probably won't see anything but gray skies til well into January. If I had to do a landscape challenge right now I would end up trying to do it after dark and photograph a Christmas Wonderland of lights set up at a local park. I can already see all the "This doesn't fit the challenge" comments.

I would love to see one.

Living in Houston, we dont have much "seasonal change". But I would love to see a contest with snow and ice in the landscape. Just to see the photos. I am all for it, even though it would be hard (if not impossible) to enter.

I love winter. In some respects it is the best season for outdoor photography. When the air is cold it carries a lot less moisture, and smog, so you can see farther and get great sunlight. When the leaves fall from the trees you remember things you haven't seen in months. When there is ice on ponds and lakes you get to go places you can't normally go without a boat. Animals have their thick coats and blow steam from there nostrils. Kids making snowmen and sledding. Lots of things to photograph. I say bring it on.
