I'm using CS3: is the photo filter adjustment layer legal in the basic rule set? If I use it to apply a warming filter to the entire image, no mask, etc., is that legal? If not, is the warming filter essentially an "effect" filter?

not allowed.
quoted from the rule set
No “effects” filters may be applied to your image, with the exception of Noise and Gaussian Blur.

| I thought it was legal since it's an adjustment layer. Now I'm curious about this. |

| You could just make a color temp adjustment to "warm" things up a bit also... |

as far as i'm concerned it's NOT a "effects filter", but just an adjustment layer and thus legal in basic.

| I am pretty sure it is legal. Some SC will chime in, but i remember this coming up from time to time and it always comes out alright. The effect can be achieved many ways, channel mixer, going into the RGB channels of curves and levels, playing with the white, grey, and blacks in selective color, color balance adjustment on the midtones to name a few. This just simplifies it. |

Correct. Photo Filter is legal even without an adjustment layer since it's just a global color adjustment. I use it all the time. |

I agree. If it's illegal I may have to go self DQ a photo or two ;) It never crossed my mind that it was an effects filter. |
