I do not consider the challenge topic. I never said anything about not liking the idea of challenges.

I continue to be blown away. I never said this anywhere. Where did you find this information?

Thanks for trying to clarify, mag, but I, honestly, don't know where you got this. The opposite is the case.

To resolve the problem:

I will now vote with the challenge context in mind.

If the photo does not meet the challenge, it gets a 1.
If it only meets the challenge with the help of the title, it gets a 2.
If it's a very weak interpretation of the challenge, it gets a 3.
If it meets the challenge with strength, it gets 4 and up.

in a sense, yes.

in another sense we're doing favors for some friends.

again, if they are our friends, don't you believe we should respect their wishes?

i dont really care at all about what the specific solution you find is, although if you want to talk about it with me I'm happy to discuss it :).

Ask yourself if your solution is one you can live with. You will hear the answer if you listen hard enough.

P.S.

John don't take this all personally. If anyone else, Hbunch7187, GeneralE, EddyG, etc expressed the same sentiments I would respond the same way.

I recommend this thread be locked. Besides, there are two others on the same topic.

I recommend it locked and investigated thoroughly! =)

Everyone has their own methods of voting. Am I not entitled to mine?

However, I think you are right. I'll start dishing out a vote of 1 if I can't see how it meets the challenge in the future. There are a LOT of photos here every week that I can't see any tie-in to the challenge theme.

I did not hardly state that you should give ones. My problem was with our original statement that meeting the challenge does not matter to you and yes we do belong to a site that is called DPChallenge and that is part of why we are posting pictures. To meet the challenge. I never said that you or anyone else should give someone a 1 because they don't meet the challenge. However, I do think that something should be taken off if the photo does not meet the challenge.

Wow! I read this thread hoping to get some clarification of how to vote on challenges, but now I'm more confused than ever. I look at the pictures, If I can't see the connection to the challeng in 20-30 seconds, I pass on it and wait until I have more time. If I still can't figure it after looking for a while, I lower the vote a little. Sometimes a good picture that fits the challenge gets a higher score than a great picture that doesn't. I try to leave a comment on those asking what I'm missing, but one recent response I have gotten was an attack that I'm too stupid to see and I have no concept of what the challenge means. Why should I make an effort if all I get back is insults? Like others, if you send me a note explaining what I miss I will relook and maybe revote. I don't claim to be omnipotent, but I'm far from stupid.

I am on this site to accept the challenges as a way to force me into thinking outside of the lines. It bothers me when others think they don't have to work within the "guides". But I would not stop just because some of them are better photographers than me (probably 80% of you). I enjoy the challenge to ME, and will continue to enter.

Maybe I should just stop voting.
