When the challenge idea is so obtuse, and most of the voters are so literal, it's going to be a crap shoot as to what rises to the top as a winner. I'm trying to be broad minded and look at all kinds of interpretations, but it's hard. :~)

The entry of least resistance will win. It is what always wins.

Steadily rising but I put in the shot I liked, so if nobody else does, it's ok by me.

I don't understand the reasoning for self-DQ. Is it just to keep you average score high?
09/29/2008 01:08:54 AM · #36
I started strong with three 6s and two 7s.. and haven't had over a 5 since...

My average score wouldn't drop more than 0.01, but if the score held it would be my lowest scoring shot in 207 challenges. Sometimes you just miss. Nothing wrong with that, but if you get the picture in 50 votes, why wait for 100 more to tell you the same thing?

I'll give it to morning to see what she holds.

I think the last time I did a self-DQ I asked myself: is this representative of the quality of my work and the answer was no. With this challenge though? I don't think any of us normally goes out of our way to try to do abstract shots. That's just my opinion though. The whole idea that people would self-dq just to hold their average up doesn't make sense to me. (For the reason you provided Doc. It really doesn't hurt your average that much.)

Also, you need to ask if this image is going to be on your profile page...NO! So it will get lost in the masses of entries in your portfolio...just write it off Doc....I am sitting lower than you at the moment.

Look at your profile, Jason. Look at the trail of ribbons you have. If you will be concerned of a low score, think about the low hangers like me:-) Please hang in there.. your score will rise.

Looks like I have the brown.
Looks like every voters view of abstract is set on one plain be lateral.
Emotion does not seem to come into it.

I actually voted on every image without looking at the title.

I wanted to feel the emotion of the ABSTRACT image, without any help from the title.
Some images have worked, but gee, there are a lot of images that are NOT abstract, let alone emotive.

Sadness. Melancholy. Weltsmertz.

The comment says someone is unsure about the emotion. I didn't say.

Despair. Angst.
