I got myself the Pentax D-BG2 battery grip for the K10D today, so I'm pretty excited.
No longer will I have to screw up my wrist to take portrait orientation photos! Woo hoo! Plus, now I look half-professional. People might take me seriously when I'm wandering about. lol.
Now if only I had a camera with which to take a photo of my camera...
Forgot my cellphone has a camera. Just a quick pic to show what it looks like. I think it's rather gorgeous.

This came up in discussion at the recent GTG in VT. When I had the 20D, I kept finding myself in a position where I thought I wanted/needed one. So when I bought the 40D I also purchased a grip. So far, I have put it on the camera once, hated it, and it sits in my bag ever since waiting to be used.

Anyone want to buy a grip? |
They certainly aren't for everyone. A friend I have has one for her 20D, and loves it to death, but hates that she can't fit her camera in her shoulder bag with it on. The nice thing about the Pentax grip is that it doesn't have that long extension that goes into the battery compartment, making it easier to fit in bags/large pockets. |

I love my grip, love the weight and stability it adds to the camera... besides the battery life. But, I don't change my grip for portrait, I still reach over. Its just the way I do it. Well, hand strap hinders me a bit, still I far prefer the flexibility of portrait or landscape without changing where my hnads are.

Well, we'll see how I actually come to use it in practical application. I think if I'm doing quick run-and-gun shooting, I'll probably just do it the way I've always done, but who knows.
As the the weight and stability, yes, I can already tell that it's going to feel wonderful for that. |
