I was taught that rulers were Kings and Queens, an instrument for measuring distance is a rule :P

Ruler > Straight strip or cylinder of wood, metal etc., used in ruling paper or lines.

Rule > Graduated, often jointed straight measure used by carpenters etc.

I'd heard that the English education system wasn't very good, as a rule... :P

Not using as limited DOF but I was rather impressed with the results I got from my Canon Digital Rebel with it's 18-55mm lens.
