From an earlier thread ...

If our long ago ancestors had been just a LITTLE more experimental, they could have taken pictures, although I doubt a live mammoth would have stood still for the process.

There does seem to be an awful lot of archival artwork in Texas ... I seem to remember a tour shown on the Antiques Roadshow episode originating in Austin.

I gave it a 5 -- it was a little grainy for my taste. Plus there wasn't anything real strong to draw my eyes to as a focal point.

Had you been viewing it contemporaneously, you might have rated it higher, it being the best photo you'd ever seen.

True, but by definition wouldn't it have also been the worst I had ever seen?

UT press release

Found this press release - seems appropriate to show the power of digital retouching, given the Dec rules.

Also interesting to note that the world's first picture was underexposed, so I feel in good company now when I screw up yet another shot.
