Surely you don't believe that a war hero is a standard upon which one should gauge the merits of becoming a president.
I have brothers that served in Vietnam with the USMC but considering the fact that they aren't American and have no money to talk of, I guess they can forget any aspirations they might have had to attain that office.

Not to be superfluous, but I'm pretty sure dp is being sarcastic with the war hero stuff.
Even most of the staunch Republicans I know are tired of hearing of it, and don't think it alone makes someone "worthy." |

| Interesting. Obama's VP represents the opposite of change while McCain's represents the opposite of experience. Maybe they could save money by swapping attack ads for a while. :-/ |

The man turned 72 years old today, the oldest non-encumbant to receive a party's nomination. He's been railing against Obama for being too inexperienced to be commander in chief. Now he picks a 44 year old first term governor from a state with a total population smaller than Columbus, Ohio? mmmmmkay |

| McCain thinks voters are idiots. I think he's relying on impulse voters and his base. Not issues. Again IMO. |

Do you mean fewer ;) ? (sorry my wife's an English teacher). What I'm saying is that his decision as a running mate was to try to pull in voters, not to make him a better president or to make America a better place.

We are in rant after all ...
Here's my analysis of McCain's pick ...
1: McCain didn't want commercials of footage where his opponents slammed him in the primaries.
2: McCain wanted to "make some history" of his own (only vice presidential Republican woman nominee -not the first VP nom. ever though, obviously Geraldine Ferraro).
3: McCain wants to keep the oil companies funding him (Palin wants more drilling in Alaska - I wonder why)
4: McCain wants the white male vote (at least ignorant males can say they voted with their "id")
5: Obviously McCain wants any low-brow votes he can get based on the most obvious surface qualities of the candidates
6: McCain wanted to stymie the excitement about the DNC by announcing something unexpected on the very next day.
7: McCain realizes that an unknown woman is less vulnerable to attack than the average white politician.

wow ... just wow... with this pick I have lost all respect for McCain ... talk about pandering ...
Pander to the Hill supporters (because they were on board with Hill only because of plumbing and not issues)
Pander to white males (lets face it ... she is kinda hot AND she is a pilot).
Other than that she brings nothing to the table except being a water bearer for the neo-cons.
A heart-beat away huh ...Palin vs Putin... that would be scarry
Fact is thinking Americans (especially women) should be insulted by this pick.

It pains me to say it, but never underestimate the stupidity of the American voter. I mean, voting for George W. Bush once can be excused. After all, he did present himself as "a uniter, not a divider" and all that malarkey, and if you didn't know anything about him, you might have fallen for that. But to vote for him a second time? One either has to be deficient in intelligence or lacking a moral compass, or both. |

| All right, All right... things just got way, way scarier. What do I do now? The thought of Gidget being a heart beat (and at 72 McCain is running out of them) away from the most powerful position in the world may be more scary than Obama in the presidency. At least I know he is a great politician if not a great public servant. I know absolutely nothing about her and not much time to form a true opinion. This was a horrible move for McCain. Meg Whitman would have been better. Throw me back into the pool of undecideds. Maybe we should change it to where there is an independent election for vice president I'd much rather have Biden in that position and McCain in the presidency. Is it too late to change the rules? |

If McCain picked an old white guy he'd be mocked for sticking with the norm
If he picked a black person he'd be mocked for just countering Obama
If he picked a unattractive woman he'd be mocked for trying to get clinton voters
He was damned who ever he picked...
I do find it interesting that Obama picked an old, white, crusty, career senator, much like McCain and McCain picked a young, attractive new comer, much like Obama. |
