I was doing some research and stumbled upon this
This apply to SOME of the D700's - most D700's are in a good working order.
Nikon announced the factory to pause D700's production to go back to the beginning to repair and fix problems, bugs, and machine errors - such as -
Defective sensor ΓΆ€ΒΆ fails to deliver results without blown highlights at minimum aperture at low ISO ΓΆ€ΒΆ incompatible with Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard ΓΆ€ΒΆ CF door are very fragile ΓΆ€ΒΆ focusing screen is slightly misplaced ΓΆ€ΒΆ AF points will not be able to move around in CL / CH mode ΓΆ€ΒΆ Auto WB (White Balance) fails to change the color temperature when SB-900 have a color temperature filter attached (SB-900 reads the filter to send information to D3-Series / D700 to adjust the white balance) ΓΆ€ΒΆ D700's popup flash is not working properly for Nikon Creative Lighting System as the master flash ΓΆ€ΒΆ high ISO banding appears after ISO 800 ΓΆ€ΒΆ short battery life (expects to have at least 1,500 shots per charge but it dies after 250 shots) ΓΆ€ΒΆ LiveView have wrong shooting modes (It have to be switched - Tripod Mode is Handheld Mode, Handheld Mode is Tripod Mode) ΓΆ€ΒΆ problems with USB Mass Storage option ΓΆ€ΒΆ AI ring (for manual focus lenses) is too stiff ΓΆ€ΒΆ D700's popup flash menu doesn't include "M" (manual flash input) ΓΆ€ΒΆ fails to write RAW data onto card (XMP) ΓΆ€ΒΆ (rare) hot / dead pixels on LCD screen ΓΆ€ΒΆ lens mount is fragile ΓΆ€ΒΆ does not recognize MB-D10 when attached ΓΆ€ΒΆ hot / dead pixels occur at higher ISO's ΓΆ€ΒΆ AF-C tends to back-focus slightly.

That is a bloody odd list to affect only some cameras, sounds more like some knock offs got mixed into Santa's bag. |

Wouldn't this be on the Nikon website if this were true?
Edit: A quick search on Google reveals "Everyone knows this clown is a fake (and a jackass)."
LoL....
It's a bunch of BS

LOL Check this out it proves once and for all he is a "FOOL"
From Ken Rockwell's site.
"I'm too chicken to perform formal stress and environmental tests on my D3, but noted photographic scientist and Brooks graduate Joseph Nicholas Spina isn't. He's got what it takes - see what his D3 can take."
//www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d3/performance-pre.htm
He actually believes that little punk. :-D

if that spina is as crappy as mentioned, i got one thing to say - it's fairly common to see people defending their choice (of cameras, in this case); and defaming other choices (the camera they didn't choose) is one of those tricks. |

We can have another 30+ page thread for Joe Spina here just like the one for Rockwell, asking if he is a fool or whatever. The majority would probably be the same as it is for Rockwell.
Anyways, sticking to the topic; yeah I mean I heard this too, but from the looks of it, it doesn't seem like many users have been "affected" by this "bug".
Irene is continuing to take stunning photographs, and I haven't heard from any D700 owners that their cameras have had problems.
B&H just re-stocked some D700s recently, so even if there was a problem, I think it should be fine now.

poor irene must be applauded for the extra efforts she puts in to take the winning shot, including (but not limited to):
"Defective sensor ΓΆ€ΒΆ fails to deliver results without blown highlights at minimum aperture at low ISO ΓΆ€ΒΆ incompatible with Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard ΓΆ€ΒΆ CF door are very fragile ΓΆ€ΒΆ focusing screen is slightly misplaced ΓΆ€ΒΆ AF points will not be able to move around in CL / CH mode ΓΆ€ΒΆ Auto WB (White Balance) fails to change the color temperature when SB-900 have a color temperature filter attached (SB-900 reads the filter to send information to D3-Series / D700 to adjust the white balance) ΓΆ€ΒΆ D700's popup flash is not working properly for Nikon Creative Lighting System as the master flash ΓΆ€ΒΆ high ISO banding appears after ISO 800 ΓΆ€ΒΆ short battery life (expects to have at least 1,500 shots per charge but it dies after 250 shots) ΓΆ€ΒΆ LiveView have wrong shooting modes (It have to be switched - Tripod Mode is Handheld Mode, Handheld Mode is Tripod Mode) ΓΆ€ΒΆ problems with USB Mass Storage option ΓΆ€ΒΆ AI ring (for manual focus lenses) is too stiff ΓΆ€ΒΆ D700's popup flash menu doesn't include "M" (manual flash input) ΓΆ€ΒΆ fails to write RAW data onto card (XMP) ΓΆ€ΒΆ (rare) hot / dead pixels on LCD screen ΓΆ€ΒΆ lens mount is fragile ΓΆ€ΒΆ does not recognize MB-D10 when attached ΓΆ€ΒΆ hot / dead pixels occur at higher ISO's ΓΆ€ΒΆ AF-C tends to back-focus slightly. So has ANYone been able to find this alleged Nikon announcement?
The only thing even remotely resembling any warnings I could find were Nikon's comments about greymarkets in Australia. |

Honestly I began reading this thread out of curiosity. I continued reading after I found BeeCee's link (which, incidentally, leads to pure hilarity. Especially the specs for the D3h and D3x and his supposed IR photos and....). This isn't just funny though. It's honestly somewhat disturbing to me how deluded this guy is. I'm amazed, truly amazed that he hasn't been diagnosed with some sort of psychosis yet. Just....WOW
ETA All of this guy's credentials are non-existent and I would treat all things he says as completely worthless. He invents products and incorrectly lists characteristics of real ones.

They've also had problems on DPReviews with him creating multiple accounts and posting in support of himself, etc. Other sites have had similar experiences with him.
One of the threads had someone asking why he didn't speak in his videos and he said it was because he was deaf... |

Haven't had any problem with mine. When I was in Peru I took about 600+ photos before recharging and my battery wasn't even at half yet. No banding for me either. When I was taking pictures in the OR I had it on auto ISO and the photos ranged from 200-3200 ISO and look great. Don't know if there is a focusing issue either, my 70-300 is awesome on it, my 50mm is a little soft but I'm thinking it is user error cause I've never had a prime like that and I don't know how to use it perfectly, think I just need to move a little closer. |
