this is one of my few attempts at this type of thing. any comments, suggestions?

I don't know how this would stand in any ruleset that might come up in a texture allowed challenge. for my "texture" layer i cropped a small center portion of the original image, copied and then resized it to match the original, then rotated and over-layed it onto the original. So there are no "new" images introduced just an altered copy of the original.

Looks good, though it's almost too subtle to be noticed.

i like it, if you want to get into overlays you need to talk to Roz, she's awesome. Let me direct her attention to this.....

Try looking here for some free textures to use on your photo. I agree, the one you used is just a bit too subtle. Don't be afraid to use different layer modes (overlay, soft light, hard light, color burn and multiply). The one texture that comes up with the link is one of my favorites to use. I look forward to seeing more attempts!
