Model has a great disposition, lovely smile.

Some nice fun shots there.

One thing I noticed (and you can see it in the row of thumbs) is you really like the center of the frame. Mix it up a bit. I will shot more off center and/or in tighter than centered shots. Of the 8 the only where the model isn't centered one way or the other is the second one.

Sometimes centering the subject vertically creates not needed space above the subject (and can make your model appear shorter than she is) as in 4, 7 and 8. I might crop quite a bit off the top of those. Don't give the viewer a lot of extra area to roam around the shot and not study the subject.

The first shot you have the right idea, in close and model is looking back across the frame. It is a fun shot to look at. The second landscape shot (5) the model is centered horizontally, leaving lots of dark green on both sides. I might have placed the model closer to the left of the frame minimizing the backgroud on the left side of the frame adding a little more on the right.

Just my take...

I do applaud that you are trying the tilted shots, it is not as easy as one would think. I'm a left handed Virgo (Analytical, Logical and critical) making it nearly impossible to pull off.

Nice fun shots, don't be afraid to get in close. If you shoot like I do with just the center focus point, remember to recompose once you half trigger squeeze. Never fails for me, I get home and have a handfull of shots with the persons head dead center of the frame because I forgot to recompose.

One thing that jumps out to me the most, is that most of them seem extremely soft. A few have lighting issues on one of the most important parts of a portrait(the face).

I'm not a fan of many of the angles most of them just dont work for me.

Matt

What lens and apeture were these take at? Dont be afraid to shoot really tight and shoot your lens nearly wide open. With a one person portrait with natural light I rarely go beyond F4 and thats only on really tight shots, when I get a little looser I may go all the way to F2.2 unless you really have a beautiful background and it helps make the portrait, I always like to kill the background with bokeh.

Thanks again for all your honest comments! They're great and I'll keep everything in mind that you guys have commented on! I guess this is my afternoon bump to so let me know if there is anything else!

Evan

edited to say: Oh and very few of them have had any editing done and there has been minimal sharpening, if I get back from work early I'll fix that! :)
