This would benefit from a much shallower dof, I think a big help for you would be to get a 50mm 1.8, just for standard portraiture. It is a cheap lens that really gets the job done. Still though a nice shot, and love the expression, nicely done.

I like this one but I would get rid of the strap as my eye is drawn to it straight away.
