I screwed up and, after trying out a number of options, left the wrong photo entered for the Still Life IV challenge.
This was my entry, titled 1/4 flower (obiously not):
scored 5.5652
This was my intended entry:
How badly did I hurt myself (or how much did I help myself) in this posting error?
Thanks. |

I prefer the one you intended to submit. I gave your original entry a 5, and I guess I would have given the other one a 6? Sorry! |

Since nobody cares about an answer to this question I'll give it a go.
The one you intended to enter has a more pleasing feel to it. I think the clearer center and the higher contrast pedal ends agaist the black background work better with only the corner being filled with the subject. But then again it is always subjective. I likley would ahve also given this a six. Overall I don't think you were hurt bad either way. |

i dont think it matters as flowers are generally not still lifes.

I agree with the other posters... The one ou intended to enter was the better choice. But live and learn, right! |

I didn't vote in the challenge ... but prefer the intended version vs the submitted one ... |

Actually, the emphasis might well be on the plural. While not generally true on DPC, when I arrange a still life for painting, i would arrange two, three or more objects in a pleasing pattern before I would call the resulting painting a still life. You might also look at examples of still life compositions on line. For example, Cezanne did splendid still life work.
As to your particular image, which in DPC seems to qualify as a still life, I would prefer the one you intended to submit as it is, I think, slightly more balanced in the frame. |

THe intended one was better but in a still life challenge perhaps would not have done much better because it appears more like a macro abstract than a still life depiction of flowers.

I'll second all of the above. |

Flowers can be make excellent still lifes as well as macros. The presentaion in question, to me, is more macro than still life. |

i like the composition in the intended one a bit more. although, i gave your entry a 6 and probably would've given the intended one the same score |
