At about 2am, the North Parking Garage on the UCF campus is completely devoid of any living or mechanical being. It is utterly empty, yet surprisingly well lit thanks to hundreds of orange-ish overhead lights. So I waited until about 2 hours ago and headed on over with my tripod, 10D, and 28-105mm lens. I took 98 shots and lost most to horrid flares and bad judgement on settings. This one however, turned out wonderful. I really really like it personally. Anywho, I wanted to share and get your opinions and critiques.

Lovely shot, even with your butt in it ;)
Nice work, certainly worth the effort you took to get it :)

The photo looks good to me but couldn't you get rid of that garbagge before? It does take away from the beauty of it. Also I think you wanted a sort of a mirror image. I would have cropped a bit more on a side so the windows will have the same size. Just a thought.

The garbage sort of added to the feeling I was trying to present. A feeling of being left behind... or something of the sort. Basically the garbage was left in intentionally :) But I do see your point, I'll be heading back tomorrow night (I think) so I'll kick some of that junk off to the side next time.
Thanks guys for your comments!

I agree; it looks sort of post-apocalyptic.. It's a fantastic shot, excellent work. |

Good idea. This would make for a good panorama photo by taking a shot to the left and to the right and stitching them together. It would emphasize the wideness and emptiness.

Thanks!! It felt almost that way being there that late. Come 10am Monday, there won't be a space left in that place to park! :)

Oh!! An excellent idea! Granted I've never stitched before, but I have software that says it can do it. Thanks!

lol... me too. It should be on the weekends. It's on the dark side of campus away from the main areas and dorms. Plus there are 4 ramps like this in the garage so I should be able to find at least one empty one :) I think, lol

I like this shot. I think the garbage adds to the shot, makes a statement about the world. |

its a great shot. i love the lines and the space of it.
while i hear your point about the garbage, i think the stronger asthetic would be to get rid of it. let us revel in the complete emptiness of the space - the you will really look lost.
also, keep an eye out for getting your camera right on that line painted on the ground and make sure it is aimed straight down in. it looks like this shot is coming at it from a smidge of an angle, and where it is such a long line this really throws off the symetricality of the image, and symetricality seems to be one of the strongest apsects of this comp.
great work. keep it up! |

Exactly... one man's trash is another man's treasure. Odd that the saying turned out so literal here, lol. Thanks for your compliment :)

Nah, I'm taking a break from girls and sticking with the camera. The 10D doesn't confuse me to the point where I want to ram my head into concrete, lol :)

I completely see where you are coming from, and understand how it would improve the image. Thus I shall take more time lining things up next session. I'm all for symmetry, hehe! Thanks! :)

B&W was my thought too - lots of fine structure in the ceiling, lines and stuff. Though mainly I just find the yellowy bad white balance look unpleasant

Thanks! The dark feel was also intentional as far as the feeling I was trying to convey. It looks only mildly dark on my screens, but I shall see what I can do in PS :)

I have tried a slight blue tone that looked rather interesting, but I just like the punch of the original color :)

I toned down the yellow (it's updated above in the first post). While it was techically the incorrect white balance, I wanted more to get how it actually looked while being there. But that's just my personal preference and on my return trip next weekend I will do shots in the correct balance :)

lol... no city scenery from up top. Just the ugly side of UCF's campus, some pine trees, and about 500 street and walk way lights that make not getting lens flares impossible :(
One of the south side garages might have better views... I'll check them out next time too :)

Nice shot, enjoyed your website too. I know the white balance is off on purpose :) but i think just a touch less warmer would be best, IMHO.
