Hi guys
I'm looking into buy this lens "Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro", but I have some questions:
Would this lens fit My camera Canon Rebel XTI 400D and a 5D (wich is on my wish list =). Is this the best Macro lens available for Canon Camera.
I would appreciate any advice or suggestion.

It will work on *any* Canon EOS camera, film or digital, including the XTi. It is an exceptional lens in both optical quality and flexibility. The non-extending design, non-rotating front element, USM focus, focus limiter switch, full-time manual focus override, and overall build quality make this lens very useful both for macro work and as a general short telephoto, though not for uses requiring extremely fast focus; it's built for accurate focus over a wide range, not speed in getting to focus.

| It's a great lens. I've had it for a couple of weeks. I chose it over the third party Tamron due to the internal focusing. The L is too expensive. |

I ADORE this lens.
It was something I bought thinking it might be fun, but for me has turned into my FAVOURITE lens.
Not only is it FABULOUS for Macro (check out what Roz does with this lens and bugs!) I've also found it to be a WONDERFUL portrait lens.
I use it for all sorts of applications and LOVE IT!
DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!

| something else you may consider---many people are shooting macro's with 70-200 zooms with an extension tube. this alows a little more distance from your subject--a 100 f2.8 macro must be very close to your subject to achieve 1 to 1 |

This is an interesting observation, since the next lens on my list is the 70-200, somehow I had the idea, that it was better as a telephoto lens. huhhh |

you could get a 25mm extension tube for about $140 so depending what lens you think you would use more often!? the 100 is a great lens thou
