I was thrilled with the initial 9.0!
Then it was around the 7 level for awhile.
Now clinging to lifesupport with a 6.1x Not complaining about the 6+ score, but just shocked at the variability.

I am a very consistent photographer it seems. I have 3 photos in voting which are all within 0.05 of the same score. They fall almost right on top of my overall average as well (4.9359) as well. Not sure what I should imply from this? Scary!

Wow- I'm new to this site and the votes I'm getting seem to vary so much- for the cardboard challenge they were all over the place- how can people rate the same photo a 1 and a 10?! I guess that's what you guys mean by "trolls"! Anyway- although watching my score is entrancing (and totally time consuming!) I'm just glad to be here and get the feedback! |

The answer is simple...the same people that vote a given image a 10 are not voting it a 1. Different people have different expectations and vote differently, sometimes very differently.
Some people don't like cats, so they give cat images 1s.
Some people don't see a connection to the challenge, and give an image a 1
Some people are harsh about how something is processed and give it a 1
etc. etc. etc.
If you look at the histogram of voting of almost every single image on the site, there are 10s and 1s and a whole bunch in between. |

Sorry to hear the damned pointy eared ones are at your images. I am sure my turn will come as well...but in the meantime mine is still rising... (I knew it was a good idea when I tied those helium balloons to the image before uploading) Oops...how long does helium last?? one week I hope?

helium works great until the balloon gets to high! After that pop! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Splat!

With each new challenge I enter, the lower my average score. The world around us, as it's seen, is far less exciting.
Doubt I'll ever get back above an average of 6.0, especially with this challenge, currently at 5.25

The reason is, and you know this already, that you are now shooting for yourself....not the DPC crowd.
