And photoprinting is business too. You're doing business with the printing people. So it fits perfect here.
Sigh.

Chris, you are forgetting what DPC is all about here. You personally attacked 3 young girls that are just looking for some advice and trying to share how happy they are about the opportunity to capture some VERY special pictures of friends. A passion for photography is what draws everyone one of us to this site. People that think they are above us all is what drives them away. I left for almost 4 years because of crap like this.
FORUM RULES
Do not attack other users. This includes "calling out" specific comments or commenters in a hostile manner. Personal attacks are never appropriate in a constructive discussion. If you disagree with another participant, address their points without attacking them personally. Be aware that others may have differing opinions of a personal attack, so use care when posting. Please note that this includes publicly "calling out" commenters (whether by name or not) in a hostile way.
This was your first comment
Thanks for taking the food from my mouth. My business is photography and you're taking my customers and giving it away free. My kids thank you now that they won't be getting any new clothes for school cause daddy's business was taken away by amateurs.
Then you have the balls to ask me to help you do it!
Sorry, not this time folks.
Your comments here I feel are in total violation of this rule. You aggressively and purposefully attacked these girls. For how you worded this comment alone I feel you owe these girls an apology!!! Your may very well be justified but this is not a professional way to voice it. In fact I feel this site in general is not the appropriate forum to voice such concerns. This site is simply a learning site and we all value the experiences of the few professionals that are committed to helping here on DPC. And I thank you! If you are the professional that you say you are, You should hold yourself to a MUCH higher standard then how the above is conveyed.
Do not bait or provoke other users. This does not promote civil discussion and will not be tolerated.
Many of us have violated this rule too. Including myself. I fully apologize, Sorry everyone and especially to the girls who asked for some advice here.
If you have any comments or concerns please feel free to PM me. I will gladly give an open and honest response.

You don't need to throw the rule book in my face my friend. I am totally aware of the rules. As I stated, Someone asked for help. If you have nothing to offer them except abuse then it is better to say nothing or take the consequences that follow if you do. Prof's post was not very nice IMHO and obviously a lot of people felt the same way too. Look at this

Now how HELPFULL is that opener? wouldn't it of been better to simply shut up and say nothing, or go kick the dog.

I feel like the dog around here. ;P
The OP's first post was
So I have got a few senior friends this year that are needing some senior pictures done. They aren't wanting anything really fancy, just something to hand out to there friends and whatnot. I don't think that their parents would want any to frame.
I know I'm not the most skilled photographer yet, but I think I can come up with something that will make them happy. Maybe do something a normal hired photographer wouldn't? Since I am friends with them and whatnot. I wouldn't charge them anything except for some gas money..we would probably drive wherever we decided to take the pictures together, and for the prints themselves.
But as far as printing.. I know nothing. Where do I start?
She's trying to do something a pro wouldn't - so she's competing with the pros on the creativity side of things at least.
She's not charging them except for gas money, and well, prints - in the eyes of the law the amount or reason doesn't matter - legal tender is changing hands, so the kids that aren't going to a professional are still paying for pics.
So yeah, I take offense at that as a professional photographer. All pro's should. The thought process behind this is 'I can do as good as a pro and they're overpriced anyway'
No, I have to pay bills like for INSURANCE, TAXES, education and for gear, studio, lights, props, backgrounds, samples and such. No pro can compete with a pirate - yes that's a good term. What would you call someone that operates outside the law? (is she paying taxes, got a business license, got insurance, etc? If not then she's operating an illegal business - might as well be dealing drugs or something)
Yeah, kick this dog some more. Then go speed on the way home and steal cable TV. Right is right, wrong is wrong, legal and illegal are easily defined and a little bit pregnant don't fly.

Sir,
Let it go! She is not a pirate. She is not using or reproducing the work of another photographer. She is helping some friends. Do you have friends? Do you ever help them? If you spent half the time looking for clients, as you have spent today arguing this point you may just be able to clothe your children. I really respect TCGuruand tried to move on and give the advice the OP requested, but your statement is ridiculous and it needed to be addressed. Have a nice evening and good luck on your next challenge.

Yes you should've. Your flagrant disregard of the professional electronics salesperson caused somebodies kids to go without food, clothes and shoes for the year.

The OP posted this......"I know I'm not the most skilled photographer" and yet you claim she is saying "The thought process behind this is 'I can do as good as a pro and they're overpriced anyway'" , seems to me you are reading too much into this and should stop digging this hole you've dug yourself. Apologize and MOVE ON! |

YES! And I think BestBuy is filing for bankruptcy. All over a simple Gameboy. Imagine the devastation to the global economy if the OP does free Sr pics.
