Don't know if this belongs here but will give it a try. Whats the dumbest position you have put yourself in just to get the shot you wanted ?. For me it was a wildflower in red rock canyon on a rather nasty slope of soft desert soil. I got the shot and promptly found myself on my butt slideing down the slope. When all was said & done it cost me four stitches, and hours of picking cactus thorns out of my butt & legs & two weeks in bed with a shot back. Now every time I pass that loving spot I have to laugh because I had no business being up there in the first place.

Taking this innocent looking shot I ended up on the opposite side of the stream from my camera and tripod. I couldn’t climb up the slippery rocks and there was no dry spot to jump from to get back the camera side of the stream. I eventually made it up-stream on my hands and knees to a spot where I could cross. Anybody on the trail could have taken my camera an run before I could get back to it. I was glad there were no witnesses on this one :P |

Let's see... About a year and a half ago I was out hiking and saw a medium sized gator sunning itself on a rock in the river. I had my P&S with me, thus not much Zoom to work with, so I decided to make my way out to the gator on an overhanging palm tree all balance beam style.
I got about three quarters of the way there when the gator saw me and immediately hauled it into the water. I dejectedly started inching my way back to shore where my friend was waiting. As I was about to take the last few steps, a yelled out something to my friend, and then heard a thrashing in the water directly below me. Apparently the gator had headed for the shore as well, and didn't know I was there until I yelled.
Scared the crap out of me bad enough that I nearly fell off of the tree, which would have put me falling right on top of the gator.
I'm glad I have an SLR with a zoom lens now!

Virtually all of my gannet and puffin photos were taken with me somewhat precariously laid hanging over an overhang on the cliff-top some 300 feet above the North Sea.... |

I'm not sure I have any of myself in a dumb shooting position, but I've been meaning to dig out and edit this old photo of my friend RLangs photographing a tarantula crossing the road ...
from the same shoot as ... maybe Rich has a shot of me taking that one ... ;-) |

lol mine was jumping a fence to get a photo and then hearing a growl from a dog behind me and then hauling ass and jumping over a fence. lol somehow my friend said I made it over the fence in two or three moves with camera and tripod in hand.

I don't know if it was the dumbest position but it wasn't the smartest, lol. had the camera on a timer and remote but to trigger the remote I had to move to be below this position and then had 20 seconds to scurry back and pose. It was a long way down. :P |

Years ago when I first got my Sony F707, I was climbing through the logs in this shot and slipped. I could have saved myself from the fall, but would have smashed my brand new camera against the log. Instead I held my camera straight up in the air and bounced myself amongst the logs. As I lay there whimpering half on the logs, half in the water, my arm was still straight up in the air, and my camera was safe.
I'm not much of one to risk my life or anything for that matter for a photo. The only other time I had a near death experience was when I was laying on the bike path for this shot. A girl with training wheels came flying around the corner and almost ran me over. I got a mean glare from her mother, but lived through the experience.

Underneath my car during a blizzard on a highway. The sun was setting and I could just barely see it through the snow but the view was amazing, i just had to stop even though my then wife wasn't keen on the idea. I stayed there for close to 30 minutes waiting for that special moment. I was shooting film so I couldn't take 150 shots of it, I got off 10 or 12 and they were all great.

Reminds me of this one by yakatme. I think it would qualify, but I suspect he would disagree.
