Man Jeb you do have some serious anger issues.. Actualy I have been in a relationship with the same woman for 14 years.. No kids at this time. but we are still young, we both have wonderful careers and wonderful family lives. Not at all socially disfunctional around anyone. Saw no reason to reply since your comment was made to attack my character. As far as that goes I thought we have to be civil here, keep it on discussion. So far JEB you have somehow directly insulted everyone who has an opposing opinion to you. Maybe you need to go and read the TOS. If you have nothing constructive to say or anything intelegent to add then why not just say nothing. If we learned all there was to science in gym class we'd be in big trouble. Didn't those old strips tell you you'd get hairy palms if you masturbated? I know in my sexual behavior class my professor brought in a whole pamphlet of anti-masturbation devices that looked like nothing less than torture devices.

I would be interested to know if coranmv and dponlyme actually oppose gay marriage?

It sounds like they are sceptical whether gay people choose to be gay or not, they believe that the Christian religion is accurate, they interpret the bible to mean that homosexual behaviour is sinful, and that this is one of the bits of the bible that needs to be enforced not ignored.

None of that means that you have to oppose gay marriage - a reasonable man might quite rationally acknowledge that one person's beliefs should not necessarily constrain the actions of others. That reasonable person might take the view that if a gay couple want to get married and someone wants to marry them in a formal ceremony, they should be allowed to do so (in the same way that I can covet my neighbour's possessions or worship false idols without the state intervening).

Let's put aside whether gay sex is sin, right, wrong and whether or not it's chosen behavior or it is inherent. I believe this thread was originally about gay marriage. The underlying problem of gay marriage is that it confers a religious connotation to it. If you don't agree with that then it shouldn't matter what it is called.(marriage, civil union, or same sex couple life commitment union or whatever) If you do agree with it then why would 'most' of you want anything to do with marriage. I haven't heard any gay person come out in favor of any religion or belief in any god. I very well could be wrong but certainly no one is speaking up. Would everyone be happy with all states recognizing civil unions with all of the rights and benefits of what a marriage has. I'll ask this question which I have brought up before. Why does the government need to recognize 'marriages' at all. Why shouldn't it all be civil unions whether homosexual or hetero. Then if you can find a church that will marry you then you can have a marriage in the eyes of the church you got married in and you will have a civil union in the eyes of the government. If marriage does have a religious connotation to it then why should the government be involved in recognizing such entities?
