I have a huge problem. How is the best way to organize pictures. I have tried several different ways but nothing has really worked. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it very greatly....

What software do you have?

Most of my pictures are from travel or from specific local places so everything is in folders by date withing location.

I think that lightroom may be a good program to help organize your photos! It may be a little bit pricey it is well worth the price. The software is developed by photographers for photographers. Not only does it have photo enhancement but it can organize photos based on metadata. I.E. like itunes does searching for various different types of data. Be it photo location, iso, or key words... superb piece of software!

my two cents!

Since you have a Canon camera, I presume you got a CD with ZoomBrowser on it. I just installed it for another purpose, but it seems to be set up to catalog, tag, and sort/search for your photos -- since it's free and you should already have it, it might be worth checking out.

Personally, I put all my photos in daily folders, inside monthly folders, and I print Acrobat PDF index prints in 2up and 12up formats. I have another folder (inside the monthly folder) for those I edit. I burn the folders to a CD every time I get up to about 600MB of stuff.
