I'm sure there is a perfectly normal explanation, but does anyone know what this is?
[thumb]696907[/thumb] I'm sure there was not anything there when I took the picture. This has no editing except resize for DPC. |

Looks like an upside down gnome spinning at incredibly high speeds. |

I'd go with lens flare. Was the sun just out of the frame? Flare occurs when the lens is pointed toward the light source. It varies depending on the exact angle, aperture, and zoom. I was taking quite a few shots into the sun from Hawaii's mountaintops, and I found that even small changes made a huge difference.

Wormhole / Portal to another dimension. Pretty sure. |

I was sitting in the shade, with all the trees you really couldn't see the sun. This is the only shot it appeared in. I guess that would make the most sense though. |

Ditto on the lens flare, you can see the sun coming from the upper right side...... use a polarizer or adjust to minumize (unless you are trying for that effect of course). |

I agree, it may be lens flare. But I also agree, call the tabloids, they used to eat that stuff up! I wish they would still publish stories about the bat boy. The fountain of vermouth also makes me smile! |

But a very nice lens flare, or a toy, or you could try the This just happened thread. |

Would make a nice viral ad material for the game Portal, very cool looking effect. |

I hope you don't mind but I did some quick levels and USM on it and the results were amazing!
ETA: I think it is lense flare. It appears the sun is just up and out of the frame to the left.

Funny you should mention that - I ran the image through an alien trace detector and it not only revealed the presence of crop circles, but guess who poked his head out of one of them??

Is the alien trace detector a plug-in for just CS* or can it be used with PS Elements?

It's a CS plugin, but you have to either be an alien or have a Top Secret security clearance to purchase it. For you, the security clearance would be your only option. |

I think that might just be El Chupacabra's sombrero after having fallen off as he ran away to suck another goat? I really like the pic. |
