Do not delay reading this, taking action or not today will grossly affect your future in America.

* Super short version for busy people, I strongly ask that you read this post in its entirety, you will not have a chance to do so and act on it again. However in brief, a new bill is being sent to the senate that will make illegal actions taken by Bush, and future presidents legal and will remove the Forth Amendment of the Constitution. See links below to help, you can leave a pre-scripted message on an answering machine or opt to send an email, either way it will take less than ten minutes of your time but could affect your Entire lifetime.

Tomorrow, July 9th the senate will vote on the FISA Amendments Act. The purpose of the Amendment is to gut out the protections to American citizens provided within the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. Further the aim is to make the current president as well as every future president immune to the forth amendment with protects against illegal searching and surveillance, including all past offenses of this kind.

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act was founded in 1978 to end the unconstitutional electronic searching and surveillance of the American public and congress by the NSA and CIA due to its overwhelming potential of abuse of power.

President Bush has ignored this act and has illegally and unconstitutionally ordered phone companies to wiretap and survey American citizens as well as congress. The phone companies have in turn illegally and unconstitutionally wiretapped countless citizens and congress for unspecified purposes set forth by Bush.

The FISA Amendment Act will make Bush immune to all criminal and civil prosecution for these acts from the time he became president and for his lifetime. As well it will grant the same retroactive immunity to the phone companies which complied with his illegal orders protecting them from all lawsuits related to damage caused by the information they obtained illegally and how it was used.

You may disregard this because you do not break any laws and have nothing to hide, however this is much larger than someone listening to your grocery lists. The Forth Amendment of the Constitution is one of the pinnacle protections that defines what America is and why it is free. Without the protections provided by the forth amendment it will become possible for any president to collect personal and potentially harmful information about any member of congress or other opposition for the purposes of cohesion.

If you wish to remain in America then please help to make sure America stays true to its purpose of freedom.

A number of senators in both Republican and Democratic parties are opposed to this bill, however the majority of senators have not stated opposition nor support to the amendment and therefore need your guidance as registered voters, to make their mind up for them.

Here is an article about FISA if you do not trust what I have said, please listen to it carefully. - Note it uses a Flash based movie player for the gut of the message, if you use a Flash blocker please disable it to hear the message.

Here is information from the EFF (Electronic Freedom Foundation) stressing the importance of the problem and what specifically you need to do to help stop it, as well as a form to help you find the phone numbers and email addresses of your senators.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, now please visit those links and take action, for yourselves, your children, your family, and your friends. Please act on this, thank you.

Any substantial websites to read about it? besides some dude's blog. Care to furnish a link to the government report on it? where can I read the official pub on it? By the way...this (FISA) has been going on since 1978.
It is all fine and well that you point it out and bring attention to it, but I would like to see more facts. and as it says, if you are not doing anything wrong...
another reason I am feeling much safer with getting my Concealed and Carry permit. TOO MUCH BIG GUBMENT!!

The EFF is fairly substantial, at least to me. They are the electronic equivalent to the ACLU for protecting against laws and bills that electronically harm Americans.

As for the some dudes blog, it isn't so much about who he is but about who he is speaking to, Daniel Ellsberg. Mr. Ellsberg who released the top-secret Pentagon Papers while working for the CIA which in part helped to end the Vietnam war and impeachment President Nixon.

Google cache of the bill passing the house on 2/12/2008 is Here, sorry for the google cache the original page appears to be missing.

Here is the text of the actual bill and all other information. Javascript is required for this website.

As for FISA, I did state it was passed in 1978. This 2008 Amendment to it removes the requirements for warrants and due process before wiretapping among other perks for the president.

Thank you!

Ok, I'm done with who I can tell and called both senators. If this passes I think Canada is going to have a lot of new illegal immigrants :/

What a read. I got about 1/100th of the way through all the replies. No time for it at the moment to finish reading it though.

When politicians go and do all this nasty stuff to their citizens, I just think back to high school. The kids that were into politics were the ones that were running for class president, and always losing to the popular jock. Those losers continued with their interest in politics and went on to become politicians, while the popular jocks went on to obscurity. It's payback time.

Thanks for the link. However; my comment was not an indication that I wished to be a Canadian citizen. It was more of an ironic statement, just for Slippys consumption. Were I to wish to emigrate, it would be to a country that was more like the US in the 40's, 50's, or 60's. Like Red China, or Russia. They have a strong vital economy much like we used to experience in the US. It's amazing how well our former enemies have done now that we've made a bunch of run down, scrawny, flea bitten, so called terrorists our enemies. The Russians have an old proverb that covers it pretty well: Be very careful who you choose to be your enemy. They are usually the ones most like yourself. I don't like our recent choice.

Is this a sudden realization? You sound disappointed. ;-)

Haven't read much into the Obama's position link, only enough to confirm my disappointment in him ever since.... If you can handle a shovel and climb a tall ladder we might have room for you up north. Oh, and bring all your photographic savvy, and it wouldn't hurt if you can cook.

And nobody still knows how Hillary obtained all those FBI files, and what were they used for. It goes both ways, lets have term limits on all Congress. Now! Maybe we will have true representation for the first time in years.

Agree, term limits for all public offices would be benificial.

Thanks for the link. Obama has had transparency and sincerity in his decisions and this is a good example.

Isn't it all kind of late since the vote is tomorrow? Why did it take so long to form opposition to this legislation?

Slippy, we're Canadian but when do you expect our government to enact a similar draft of the US legislation? If it flies in the States, it'll grow wings here too i'm sure.

I'd expect no less. Wouldn't it be nice to live 'off-the-grid', undetected by governments? I'd hang out on the beach all day eating bananas.
