Well, if I hadn't cropped mine for the best comp it may have been a "point" of color. It would have bombed out anyway. I knew when I entered it that it's not the sort of image that tends to do well in challenges. My other potential entry would have done dead mediocre. Decided I'd rather to go down in flames.
Maybe I'll get that coveted brownie out of this. Keep up the low votes people.

Same here. I'll still be reasonable, but DNMCs don't merit 7s or 8s, IMO. What might otherwise be a 5 or 6 might instead get 4. The challenge has to mean something, or every round becomes free study. |

If you take the word "point" literally, then there are only two shots in the whole challenge that should score higher than a 1.
I normally wouldn't get wound up over a challenge, but this low scoring is really getting to me. ( Not just on my shot either.)
As my daughter would say, " Stop being meany bo beanies!".
Dummy spit over.

Those 90% who don't have what I consider a point probably realize that meeting the challenge description isn't as important as a good picture.
DNMC doesn't mean an automatic 1 from me and certainly not others. And I'm still considering not voting this time around. |
The most uninteresting, boring and lowest degree of difficulty shots are the couple of images which carried the challenge description to an extreme. Those are the images which deserve a "1", even if they technically met their own extreme interpretation of the challenge. I can see by the very low voting overnight (drop of nearly 2 points for my image) that the DNMC "folks" are inflicting pain in a sadistic way. Sort of sad, if you ask me. While I will take the challenge description into consideration, I'll vote on the artistic and technical characteristics of each image... giving extra points to creativity, originality and degree of difficulty. |

I resemble that remark. :-) (But I do a lot of boring... just this time I tried to meet the challenge with it!) |

I can't quite agree with your logic here. The voters include the 90% (by my definition) who didn't meet the challenge, and those who didn't enter the challenge, who tend to vote higher than those who do. Certainly the DNMC "folks" can bring down scores if they're handing out very low votes.
There may be other factors at work here. Perhaps it's just a low scoring challenge. Perhaps people are wiped out and cranky from a long holiday weekend. Perhaps it's the start of the DPC Olympics. I guess we'll see in a week how this one plays out.

"Capture an image where a point of color is the main subject"
This doesn't say there can't be any other colors, just that the main focus is a point that stands out due to its color. What may be up to interpretation is "point", because taken litterally, that would be a single pixel.
When you look at it in this manner, I think there are a whole lot less DNMC's than some have alluded to.

Just to be clear, I have no issues with others colors, and am not so literal as to expect only a single pixel.

As long as Whiterook or Charliebaker are not in this challenge, I stand a chance of that brown. No votes over a 5 for me yet.

I'm shocked that it never occured to me how literal people would take the word "point" when it came to this challenge.
I just hit an eve 5.000 after living in the 4's since voting started.. I thought I followed the challenge really well and I thought I found an interesting shot to enter too.. Oh well !!! |
