Thanks,

No, they are not freeware. The Chroma Noise Reducer is $ 4.50, but I received it free from FM after I bought another action. I cannot assure you that you will get it that way too.
It has little control, but it is fine for colour noise (red, green, blue in gray / shadow area) like in this pic.

The Digital Velvia action is really great. Especially when you've got your whitebalance right is gives great results. It works on 8-bit and 16-bit images. The DV Pro action is $ 15,00. It is easy, it is fast and it works. I use it on almost anything I print nowadays.

I think yours is a great shot as it is. But by way of offering something different, I did the adaptation below. I felt that, although she is impressive in her entirety, the key lies in her gaze - which is penetrating and intense.

I also thought that the fur colour was irrelevant when filling the frame in this way and so applied a desat to everything but the eyes. This is clearly not DPC legal, but as a piece for the wall I think it may appeal more than the distant, impersonal view.

Playing with the sat levels may produce a richer result (using lightness controls, etc.) but I only spent a few minutes on this.

How about

Levels adjusted to stretch the histogram, applied a curve to boost the contrast a touch. Increased the saturation a bit to increase some of the orange.

Crop, then applied a selective mask around the background (painted on)
Grew/ shrunk to even it out, then feathered a bit to even the application.
Healing brush to tidy up the wall.
Applied two duplication layers, one screened, the other multiply - both with 100% black masks.

Painted white on the masks to selectively dodge and burn areas - darkening around the edges and trying to increase focus on the eye area.
Selectively lightened in towards the eye and added more light to the catchlights.
Varied the opacity of the masks to fine tune the strength of the dodge/ burn.
Used FM edge sharpen action on medium strength setting, then back stepped and varied the layer opacity to reduce sharpening appropriately.

Picked a couple of colours and added the border. Took about 5 minutes and probably shows.

Here's my slightly more involved attempt:

i really like this idea, and it was something i tried, however as a print i don't think it would work because it is such a significant crop

from the achiral version. a little more density from levels, curves and the channel mixer.

Here's a softer version.

Everyone has done such a great job on these - I've enjoyed looking at the different versions - this is also a great learning experience for me.

Josh - I love your final version of the photo - and I love the color of the eyes, it's intense.
