Long story short, I had to take this shot, bracketed it for seven shots. I tried photomatix and nothing good comes of it. The merge to HRD is the same. I can never seem to get HDR to work for me. Here are the pictures I used

Looks good but you may have put to much saturation in your shadows and highlights. What did you set the saturation at on the both of them? |

Assuming the settings are retained (I didn't record them) 60. I'll de-saturate slightly and see about that.
10% less

Here is my take on it. I used exposures 1, 5, and 6 only. Before I went into photomatix, I used levels in the RGB channels to color correct the image. I find having slight color shifts in the originals will give you those unnatural colors when ran through Photomatix. I ran NI on the sky and shadows/highlights on the buildings. Then ran USM once around (24, 43, 0) for more local contrast and another around (180, .4, 0) for regular sharpening. Also made a selective color adjustment to get more natural tones. I cropped the sky to, I never get good resultsWhen I do HDR stuff, I used to bracket way too much. I would end up with too many shots I wasn't going to use. Now I look at my images as I bracket on the LCD or histogram. I start by not blowing highlights and stop when the darkest shadow is properly exposed. This is usually 3-5 shots. Hope that helps.

Much appreciated. I think maybe my subject (the city) is just not that good enough a subject under the conditions to warrant am HDR effort. Thanks thought!!
