FROGGGGSSSSS, all those bloody cute frogs doing cute things on lilys and glass and posing for the cameras,

Im surprised Im the only one that brought up the woodies so far, or is everyone just so accustomed to them now its like they are part of the furniture now... :P

Hi, my name is J.B.

I have this horrible habit of taking pictures of birds. This is astep in my 12 step program to conquer this addiction so thanks for giving me the opportunity to come clean. I know you are all just sick of them, they show up in every challenge! I know it is a horrible habit and I have been trying to switch to beautiful women but it is just not the same thing. And besides, they run from me faster than the birds do. So please be tolerant of my entries for just a little longer. I hope to make it to the next step in a week or so.

Ok, thanks to everyone who helped turning this thread into something more fun after a rough start.

You may continue doing that, I would just like to quickly inject a more serious comment. But before we get to that: I love animals. Here are some of my favorite animal shots:



The more serious comment I wanted to make is the following: A mediocre shot of your dog, your cat, your kids, your car, etc. may mean a lot to you and be very special for you. However, other people who don't have this special relationship to your pet may not feel as excited about the image as you do; I think that is understandable. It is therefore worthwhile to try and make your shot special for everyone. And we have some participants who specialize in taking awesome pictures of their family members (and putting paint in all imaginable forms on their faces ;-) ).

And a second serious comment: One thing that I find very interesting is the so-called tragedy of the commons. It deals with situations where it is rational for an individual person do to something, but the entire population is doomed if everyone does it. This applies to polluting the environment, for example. If your company simply throws all its waste into the nearest lake, this is economically probably a good idea because it's cheap. And the impact on your health is minimal. The problem starts if all the other companies do something similar. Then we are all rich and dead. Yeah!

I think the same framework can also be applied to the challenges here. Submitting a mediocre picture of your dog (or anything else) not meeting the challenge may be beneficial for you if you simply want to get some attention and some comments. However, if everyone did that, voting would become rather unpleasant and annoying and people would probably stop soon, resulting in less votes and comments for everyone.

All righty Sam, we get the point. You dont think that animals should be in challenges. Well, chill out, this is what this site is about, everyone has their own style and sense, if someone wants to put in a dog in every challenge that is up to THEM. That is what makes everyone different in their photography style. SO unless you seriuosly want this to go downhill and turn uglypugly, let the woodys RULE!

I think we need a challenge where we have to enter ONLY overused cliche subjects, after which we can't enter those subjects for 6 months.

shhhh its best not to provoke Strikeslip otherwise you could share the same fate, just keep your head down and what every you do, DONT MAKE EYE CONTACT WITH HIM. He may charge ;)
