I tried to make a outdoors natural light portrait of a colleague. The portrait is not up to the standards I see here... not even close. So, I am asking you: Would you enter the challenge in the hopes of getting some constructive criticism, or just let it go and try again.

Any thoughts you might have in the next couple of hours would be warmly received.

Thanks,

Bill

I'd enter it :) what can it possibly hurt? and it'll give you an idea of what people think along the lines of where you fall currently photographically speaking on this subject- then hopefully someone will say 'this is too bright, or this is too dark, or this is absolutely beautifully perfect don't change a thing' and it will help :) --enter the challenge enter the challenge!!! :)

Bill I say enter it, that way you at least get the fun of whining about your score with the rest of us in the score thread. After the challenge if you haven't got enough information from the comments to improve start a thread asking for help. Once you've found out what you could have done differently grab your colleague and reshoot so you can put your new found knowledge to the test...and then give us a look at the result.

It can be painful but you'll learn quicker by jumping in and there are always people willing to help someone that wants to improve.

The lady I used for the model is a lovely lady, but I had no idea how much red she had in her face. I tried, within the challenge rule constraint, to make that less obvious. As a result it became B&W. Would you suggest I just send it as taken or send it with my attempts to fix it?

I would enter your best edit of the photo and see how you go and then after the challenge start a learning thread if you need to and show the one entered and the original. For what it's worth I love B&W portraits they're very classic. I had a similar issue this week when my model had the flu and had a bright red nose for our shoot...such are the joys of basic editing.

Thanks wildcard. I appreciate your guidance. I suspect you will see the portrait in 2 1/2 hours.

You're welcome, now don't worry about the score, oh and you can cross number 4 off you goals list. :D

I have the feeling I'm not going to do well - even though I really did think about this. We'll see.

This will be my first post... I'm not expecting to get a ribbon, but I hope I do well!
Of course this challenge comes up the week we only have kid sittings, lol!!

Good luck, Cassie!

This is my 56th challenge entry and I'm not expecting a ribbon either. :o)

I'm in for the Male Portrait. And it's not a self-portrait. ha!

Thanks!
I'm hoping that I don't have my hopes too high. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the next challenge will be!!

Lol well if it was a self-portrait, you could have colored me quite surprised Alicia hehe. I'm in the same challenge and will not ribbon either. Good luck! (oh, it's also not a self-portrait hehe)

I entered a female in the female category...what a challenge if I new a transvestite or crossdresser! I get so used to editing pics these basic challenges drive me nuts - I wanted to do my typical enhancements...eyes, teeth at least...but no. So I gave it a B&W treatment even thought the color image is much better IMO.

Now to go find a fave from May...

Entered male portrait a few days ago... and expecting my first 6+ after two 5+ and a 4+ (still in voting)

Just entered female, and then the May freestudy. As awlays, I'm just shooting to beat my average (5.2). I noticed something interesting...these will be my 99th and 100th entries, respectively!
So if I can ribbon even 1% of the time then I've entered a ribbon worthy photo! OK, top 10 would excite me no end.

I am 69%(***beavis and butthead chuckle***) through with the voting, and I have given out 9 10's! There are some good photos in there.
