Ok, my normal support structure (the family) is split on which photo to enter tonight. I'm looking for an outside opinion, as I am really torn. Nothing is ribbon-worthy, and nothing is jumping out as a clear leader.
On the condition, of course, of not voting on my entry in the challenge, is anyone willing to give an opinion? I am looking for one or two people's take.
Respond, and I will PM the link to the photos in my workshop folder.
Thanks. |

My family Tie continues, as the four opinions I got split between the two that my family split on, also 2-2.
Back to going with my gut. Thanks guys.
David, just sent you a PM. |

I posted this question in another thread, but this seems to be right on target for my query. I have a mediocre portrait at best. My question is, should I enter it in the challenge in the hopes of getting some constructive criticism, or just give this challenge a pass.
Any thoughts on the subject you have in the next couple of hours would be appreciated.

The more you enter the better you get, because you get comments that help you learn. I would definitely say enter, especially if you like the shot, don't worry about what you get from the voters, and focus on how you can improve.

I think it depends on what you hope to learn from the criticism. For example, if your photo is blurry or wrongly exposed, you have to think "Will a bunch of comments to that fact help me in any way?"
If I am not happy with my photo, i wouldnt enter it.

Well, it is in focus, and it has the right exposure, and the shadows aren't bad, and the background is nondescript, the model has a nice smile... but it is just not very pleasing because of the redness in her face. I guess I was hoping someone would say something... if you just click this switch or push this button or .... then it would be fine. I have other portraits that are much better, but they aren't in the right period. Oh well, thanks for the insight. I guess it is my decision in the final analysis.

Try pulling up a hue/sat layer, and going to the red channel and pulling down the saturation. That should help, unless the background is reddish. Hope that helps.
