with basic editing are you allowed to touch up your shots? or maybe change the effect, maybe to a negative look (yes i know i missed the last neg challenge) or mosaic or anything of that nature?

actually i just looked at the basic editing page and it said you could do the touch ups but what about adding effects. I have a feeling you can't but im not too positive.

you can not add anything that was not in the original picture apart from unmask sharp. You can not dodge and burn or do anything that is not an all over edit. No indivual or selections allowed.

I think that covers it??

You can remove sensor spots in Basic and Advanced Editing.

No “effects” filters may be applied to your image, with the exception of Noise and Gaussian Blur.

Taken from basic rules.

Edit to add:

You may not:
spot-edit your entry, except to remove sensor dust or hot pixels.

which means no other "spot" touch ups.

If you want to post A photo in lets say, a message like this- you need to find the number that corresponds to the photo you want to display. This can be found by RIGHT clicking over the image- then select PROPERTIES. At the top there should be a number and an extension (Ex: 494809.jpg) Take that number and copy it, write it or memorize it.

Then type just like below:
[thumb] THE NUMBER GOES HERE [/thumb]

So you should get this:

Hope this helps

when you add your photo to your portfolio it has its on IMAGE_ID= # (example: IMAGE_ID=000000). Copy the numbers only. Then in the thread you click on and paste the IMAGE_ID= #) and click ok.

Yes you can make color and brightness changes but it has to apply to the complete image.

this must be written somewhere, but im not sure about the terminology used.

Is selective color in PS allowed in basic?

I don't think so - whilst you are allowed to change colours and saturation you are only allowed to use adjustment layers and selective colour doesn't fit that catagory. I would use a hue/saturation adjustment layer (without a mask) instead (see the selective desaturation under basic rules tutorial).

You can use the selective colour option to do, for example, selective desat, because it affects your entire image.

The main thing is that you can't do anything that just selects certain areas to adjust; hence no selection tools such as the lasso, no layer masks.

Just for an example, say I had a picture of a pumpkin in a green field and I wanted only the pumpkin in colour. I couldn't lasso it and then desaturate everything else, but I could use selective colour to remove all the colours that weren't pumpkin.

eta; And to answer a question from your first post, yes you can use invert to create a negative under basic rules, again because it affects your entire shot.

Thanks for the replies

Taking your example can I fiddle with the orange in the picture and make it a purple pumpkin?
