Thank you sweetie..... I am at present commenting on all images and now at the 60% mark, so hopefully I will try and do the 100% as promised.
I not having a good day today.....
I am now feeling a little brighter by seeing so many beautiful flowers in this 'Soft Focus' challenge, and that is making me feel so much better. You all know I LOVE flowers.....

I used to be a real stickler about this. However, I have given a great deal of leeway to the entries in this challenge. Soft focus can encompass many different forms...from completely soft/out of focus to just barely soft. I don't know, maybe I've just become soft (no pun intended!) but I know most everyone really tries hard on this site to "get it right" and I think we all sometimes deserve a break from the DNMC Nazis. I am currently at my lowest score EVER on DPC. It's not really breaking my heart, but I do wish people would chill a bit and try and give people a bit of a break. Or don't, whatever. |
I'm not in this challenge...but I voted on every image... honestly- still nothing below a 5 yet :) there are some great images in here too :) I haven't had time to shoot for a challenge l8ly :( |

Originally posted by FocusPoint: I think with soft focus what we want to see is halo effect around everything we see on the photo. It is what you see when you look at behind a little blurry glass, not much, just a little... that gives halo around the subjects.
I think :P |
yea, I was wondering, too, so I consulted the Ultimate Source of Factual Information Here
and it says:
In photography, soft focus is a lens flaw, in which the lens forms images that are blurred due to spherical aberration. A soft focus lens deliberately introduces spherical aberration in order to give the appearance of blurring the image while retaining sharp edges; it is not the same as an out-of-focus image, and the effect cannot be achieved simply by defocusing a sharp lens.
Because soft focus is a technical flaw, many older lenses had soft focus built in as a side effect of their construction. Newer lenses are optimized to minimize optical aberrations, but there are lenses such as the Canon EF 135/2.8 Softfocus[1] and Pentax SMC 28mm f2.8 FA Soft Lens, to name but a few, which have adjustable levels of spherical aberration at wide apertures. The effect can be disabled entirely as well, in which case the lens is quite sharp.
Nikon produces a series of DC ("Defocus Control") lenses which are sometimes confused with the soft focus effect, but these are not soft focus lenses, as they do not introduce spherical aberration over the whole field.
The soft focus effect is used as an effect for glamour photography, because the effect eliminates blemishes, and in general produces a dream-like image.
The effect of a soft focus lens is sometimes approximated by the use of diffusion filter or other method, such as stretching a nylon stocking over the front of the lens, or smearing petroleum jelly on a clear filter or on the front element of the lens itself.
It can also be approximated with post-processing procedures. Specifically, highlights in an image are blurred. |

I'm not gonna lie, getting 6+ on 4 of my last 5 entries had me kinda spoiled. O well back to reality I suppose... |

Yes I completely agree with this, Soft Focus is not just a OOF image but a image with dreamy look & sufficiently sharp.

I'll be lucky if I even finish in this challenge. My score is so low I think it fell off the chart to another challenge somewhere.

Calm down. Trust me if it's anyone that understands it's me. Just take what you can out of it and try harder next time. |
