For about 6 months now I have been following my local fire-rescue department, specifically a new group of recruits as they work their way toward becoming full-time firefighters. I've really gotten to know both the recruits and the seasoned firefighters who have been teaching them and think the world of most of them. Today I put a montage video together that will be played at the recruit's graduation dinner. I think they're going to be very surprised.

None of them have seen this yet. Should I make any changes?

Definately surprised, that's really good, I'm sure all of them will be smiling through the whole thing.

I'd suggest though that the pictures are changing too quickly. You don't get time to have a look at them before it goes to the next one.

I liked it, the only thing I would have changed is how fast the images scroll I found myself wanting to look at the great photos then they were gone. I especially liked the choice of music.

Thanks, guys. I know the speed is fast ... but I went with a 6 minute song and had 300 images to show :D

I'm not sure how to slow it down much more without removing a BUNCH of images. In all, I've shot over 4,000 of this group and their colleagues.

Glad you're liking the music, it was a really tough choice.

The problem is the images are to good to go so fast, if you would have taken junk images then faster would have been better....

loop the song ?

Good images, and good content, several of them I would pull though to help reduce the amount of very similar images of the same scenes being shown. That would also allow you to slow down the scroll. Otherwise I like it.

Hi Cindi

Great job. They will love it. Having been in the fire service for over 30 years I can tell you that the main thing the recruits like to see in these videos of their training is images of themselves. You included multiple of each of them from the looks of it. When it runs at the grad event you will hear hoots and hollars for each of them from family and friends as their image comes up. If you choose to eliminate photos to slow it down a touch (and I would only slow it a touch as fast pased is better than slow) I would eliminate the ones of training fires with no people in them that are shown multiple times and leave the people shots.

Overall though I don't think you need to do much. They will be pleased.

Hmmm, I like the fast pace. You got tons of great shots, may as well make everyone's head spin and show them all off. People won't be able to take their eyes off the screen for that 6.5 minutes, for sure.

Loved it, Cindi.

I like the speed. The quality of the photos is always degraded in compressed, small screen video anyway - I think it works well for this.

Thanks, guys! :D

One of the Cheifs saw it tonight and was overwhelmed, so I'm on cloud nine. I've had so much fun following these guys the past few months, I'm just thrilled to know they will appreciate it too.

The speed was too fast in my mind also. Being with EMS/Fire I also can tell you that cutting out the images without people in them won't hurt this at all. The firefighters and their families will be looking for themselves and their friends - flames they will see for years to come. I think it's awesome what you are doing for them too.

Thanks for the good advice, guys. I removed some of the non-people shots, but sped them all up... then could slow down all of the people shots. Now the timing is a mess, but another hour of messing with it and I'll have it working right again. Sure hope they love it!

They are going to go nuts over it, I guarantee. You should take a video of the room while they watch it, so we can see & hear them hoot. I think it'll be fun as heck!

Great work Cindi, they're gonna love it!! And great choice of music too!

I would take out a lot of images and slow it down though, focus on those images that are really emotive and try and get everyone in.
