not in the Top 10?

I am curious as I was DQ'd after a challenge was over and I was 124th.

It was my fault, as after the challenge was over, i threw out the Workshop folder I had on the shot as the challenge was over not realizing that i could be brought up for validation.

I am not challenging the DQ at all, it was my fault, i tossed the original with all the work, but there is no where in the rules that i could see that you could be asked for validation after a challenge unless you where in the Top 5

Just curious

And I will add, that it was a lesson learnt the hard way and not one that will be repeated ever again by me lol

There have been quite a few low scorers DQ'ed after the challenge is over. Sorry to hear of yours. Just a bit of advice....if possible, never throw away your originals....you never know when you might need them...and I am not just referring to DPC.

Think about it -- we can't even begin the validation process of the winers until the voting is over, and if one of the top five gets a DQ, who ever moves up will have to be validated as well.

I don't throw out any originals, and even if I did I'd back them up to CD first.

I have been asked to submit an original three times - none of which were during the actual challenge. The closest to a challenge was two weeks after it ended. The next closest was almost three months and the other was almost 6 months. None of these was even close to a top ten placement let alone top 5. Highest was 17th, the others were around where yours was, just over 100th or so.

MIAOW

Uncalled for.

I said it was my own stupid arse fault to start off with, not whining about it at all.

And I also stated that it was a deserved DQ

I wasn't refering to you JulietNN, it was in jest. You were very upfront with your dq. I apologize if it came across that way, it was just a silly statement for the missing 'n'!

ETA: (Bad timing on my part)

I am sorry I jumped to conclusions too Kawa, a little sensitive about being so stupid on my entry. So I should be the one to apoligize as it was me that read it wrongly

No problem on either side, OK!

BTW, what does MIAOW stand for?

And to stay on track, I keep all my originals in triplicate. One is kept with the original folder and backed up, and one is kept in my challenge folder that I use to work on. That folder only contains the originals, edits, and the web sized photo. All of the challenge folders are in a master folder for challenges.

If it makes ya feel any better, Juliet, my first DQ was because I hadn't set my camera's clock back for the end of daylight saving time, so it said 12:43 the night of rollover.

So 123 DQ's and you would have won so never throw them out again!

My first was my also my personal best and only 7+ image, it seems I took the shot one year before the challenge which was befroe I had the camera..... Moral of the story is to remember to check the date one your camera even the year...lol

Wow, snapping the shot with 17 minutes left to submit. You realize you could have waited 16 minutes to make it an authentic last minute submission. :P

Public Service Announcement:

*Go get your camera.
*Turn it on.
*check the date (month, date AND year)
*fix it if it is wrong.
*go take an award winning picture.

Thank you, and now back to your regularly scheduled forum thread

lol, Karmat

I have to give kudos to the SC for handling my DQ with kid gloves, I was so dissapointed with myself and they gently slapped my hand and reminded me to keep my originals.

So thank you SC and to you all for telling me your stories too!

Yeah, 17 minutes to go was plenty of time. I had no trouble getting it entered. Recently, though, I've missed getting one shot in and blew it on another because I screwed up in editing at the last second. So I've (maybe) learned my lesson.

So there's no statute of limitations on validation requests? Just wondering

I seem to recall a case last year where someone argued her dq, of course causing folks to visit her portfolio where she'd put in editing notes showing that all her entries (4 or 5, I think) broke editing rules. I don't believe she's here any more....

Then again, I may just be imagining things :D
