If I am getting some 4x6's printed at my local shop, should I resize to 1800px x 1200px, or just leave at the maximum resolution?
I am assuming they print at 300dpi but have no idea, I want the images to be as sharp as possible. |

You might want to check with the lab. It's best to print at the optimum dpi of the printer.
Also, your image will most likely need to be in sRGB colourspace as well. Another question to ask the lab though. |

Most digital processors a programmed to provide pretty decent output, I never have any quality issues when I have printing done so long as the image I'm printing from is clean. Of course, there's a lot of factors other than output settings that can affect your final image including chemical balance and the machine's color calibration not to mention the the operator's eye for color. Just be sure your camera is set to the correct aspect ratio or you may lose a little off the top and bottom of your images though I'm not sure if that's an issue with Nikon cameras. |

Yeah all the images are 3x2, problem is I want to process them tonight, and print tomorrow. Can't call them now as it's nearly midnight. Just to be on the safe side should I leave them all max resolution? Or is 300dpi the norm? |

I think you are worrying about things that don't need to be worried about.
For starters, your printer will print at whatever DPI your jpg file will support. It will automatically recalculate the DPI based on the aspect ratio, so you don't need to worry about it. Just make sure your JPG is cropped to a 4x6 aspect ratio so they don't crop it differently than you want, and the lab will take care of the rest. |

300 dpi is pretty normal, but I usually upload at the maximum resolution I have available, in case I someday want to print 8x12 or 12x18 -- that way only one file is needed for all sizes of the same aspect ratio. |
