I think the figures have to reflect total gross profit (markup) for the time period, including both the artist and site shares. Then, at the end of the accounting period, the split is determined.
I still don't think we need so many divisions in the pay scale. I do think lower, attainable threasholds are a good idea. |

$50 - 55%
$75 - 60%
$100 - 65%
$150 - 70%
$200 - 75%
Per quarter or something more like that. |
I like that breakdown. I can see that as being attainable with a little effort.

Is everyone who is suggesting this new pay scale in agreeance that this would replace the referral program? |

I'd be interested in seeing the number of people who got referrals versus the number of people who make that baseline requirement in a quarter.

I think the logical arrangement is to have this replace the referral one gets from one's own prints, but there should still some credit given for referring someone to the site and a sale ensuing. I think a flat 10% of the markup skimmed off the top would seem appropriate; then loss (commission) is borne proportionally by the artist and the site. |

I never refer anyone to anything but my own prints... I guess there probably are people out there referring to other people's prints in an attempt to get the referral credit tho. I would have no problem with dumping that concept.

But referring people to your own photos doesn't guarantee that they stop there...I've had referrals pass through me and buy from other photographers and vice versa.

Yes, but remember that you don't have to refer a customer directly to someone else's prints to get credit for that referral. If you have referred the customer anywhere on the site in the past 12 hours, you get referral credit on anything they buy. John... something that I think you can gather from your statistics mentioned in this thread is that you have probably been (and I can unofficially confirm that this is true) the beneficiary of someone else's referrals on one or more occassions. I very much believe that this is an advantage, not a disadvantage, of the site -- you pat my back, I pat yours.
Of course the ideal situation for any seller is to refer someone and to have them buy your prints, but I think we've learned on the site that the more traffic, the better for everyone. It may be hard to see, but I very much believe that someone uploading 500 prints tomorrow would not be bad for your sales. To the contrary, more customers in general means more sales for everyone. And those sales may not even be immediately noticable. I'd very much like to believe that each print someone hangs in their house is a potential conversation piece, and that every satisfied customer is a potential repeat customer as well as a potential referrer.
Since I brought up the point of referring others sales, and because of your mention of not referring others' prints, I do want to point this out for anyone who was never aware or may have forgotten... If I refer someone to drewmedia.dpcprints.com, when they view one of my prints, only my prints are suggested to them. Just a handy feature to help those who wish to utilize the system in that manner.

I think i agree. Let's just continue this for a while and see what happens.... Maybe some additional referral contests of some type would be excellent... Maybe the winners of the last contest could share some of their secrets on how they managed so many referrals as well. If two people can do that, I would imagine that 50 people doing it would really increase traffic overall :)
