Barbara, big hugs to you. You just went thru a very emotional event and it's going to take some time for this to work thru your system. (We had a sudden and catastrophic loss here several years ago and there's a month of my life that I do not remember. Just saying this because I know what emotions can do to life's normal functions.) This is an event that I'm guessing you have never experienced in your life before. You don't know how to deal with it so you are using one outlet that most mom's know about - guilt (please smile at this point). Don't get rid of the camera. It's something you obvioiusly wanted pretty bad. I think Melethia's idea of how to use it might just do the trick for you. You're obviously a good and caring mother. I hope some day soon you'll be feeling ok about using that camera again. :) |

Barbara, I was going to add my 2 cents too, but really it's all been said. Here's some good vibes and hugs coming your way. When you're ready, you'll know it. Feel better soon. |

Barbara, thinking healing thoughts and sending caring vibes your way.
Remember that you're a good person and grapple with your demons.
Do not let them take you from doing the good things you do for the people you love.
Selling the camera won't change what happened, and as someone else suggested, it would be cathartic to send little slices of you through your images.

Barbara, I like Deb's idea a lot. But if it doesn't work for you, I hope you cut yourself some slack and allow yourself to not use your camera for a while, if that's how you're feeling. It doesn't mean you have to sell it. It's not even a good financial decision, because buying things and then selling them again almost always is a losing proposition.
You can't predict the future of your heart. Allow your camera to wait for you a while. |

I'm not in any challenges, and don't have anything to enter in any of those currently open. And as a penance for my most recent behavior, am not entering any more challenges this month. I'll stick those things I didn't enter in my portfolio at some point. :-) |

Wait, to punish yourself for not entering challenges are aren't entering challenges? I should try this: next time I decide I'm playing too many video games I'll punish myself by playing more!

Barbara, you got loads of good advice here already. Just do whatever it takes to make you feel better. And if that involves taking pictures, post 'em for comments too :) |

Btw, sorry I haven't been around guys... I've literally picked up my camera twice so far this month - I've been in fly lab world too much recently. Although the photography obsession has, oddly, been serving me well at work. There's a couple of new toys I got taught how to use, and one of them is a microscope with a camera attached to it, and with a software package that's remarkably like Photoshop, but intended specifically for scientists (I'm now one of the few people in the lab who knows how to use it properly).
So if anyone ever wondered (lol and why would you) what a fly embryo central nervous system looks like, here's a shot. (it's been stained so you can see it, and you're basically looking at a side view of the brain and the 'spine')

Hey Deb, my cousin is being deployed to Iraq (after a training period at Camp LeJeune) for a year. He's in the coast guard and was promised that an Iraq assignment was optional (volunteer) when he joined. He's not a fighter, he's a cook, lol. He has a culinary arts degree. He's been in for 3 years and is planning to make it a lifetime career, but he's very upset about this. Got any words of wisdom I could give him? |

Where in Iraq is he going? That makes a difference. But really, if he's going to be in a camp, he's fairly safe, and some are a lot safer than others. And if you're in the military these days, you will go downrange. It's pretty much a given. |

He's going to be guarding some oil platform thing on the water. He was kind of sketchy with the details because that's really about all he knows. He's just more comfortable with a spatula than a gun. |

lol I think I'm immunised to aesthetic considerations with these, I actually think they're kinda pretty! You should see them glow green :)
It's lying on its back, and the brain is on the left side. |
