Which is better for one day only stay?
Brussels, Belgium or Rome, Italy?
If you have other suggestions, let me know :)
I am planning on getting to the place around 8 am and leaving the next day.
Thanks

I've never been to Rome, but I bet is way better then Brussels.
Now, I do live near Brussels and I can say is nice for 1 day, but I'd still go to Rome :) And weather is better in Rome (have a look in my portofolio, blurry stuff, so you can see Brussels in summer ...raining with cats and dogs!) :) Food is better in Rome...
But if you do want to come to Brussels, let me know, if I can, I'll come for a drink.

Wow, quite a contrast!
Honestly, I haven't been to Rome, but I have spent a great deal of time in Brussels, weeks/months at a time. Brussels is interesting, but honestly, I think you have to hit Rome. Culturally it must top Brussels. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Brussels, have even considered living there, but if you only have time to hit one of the big European capitals, then I would surely pick Rome over Brussels. Of course, you don't say where you are coming from.... or going to...... |

The place I am visiting is Barcelona.
Ok then I might then spend a day in Rome, I think that would be better. Thanks for the input. :)

Antwerp, Belgium is better in a day IMHO than Brussels.
Rome is unmanageable in a day.

or you could go to Brugges, Ghent or Amsterdam
or just go to Granada (Spain) it's very beautiful ...or any other village in Spain.
or go to Venise, or Florence, or somewhere in France.. Europe is big and has a lot of beautiful places...donnow what your criteria is.... |

If you are going to go to Rome, make sure that you have a very tight itinerary. I spent 3 days there and it was way less than enough. You can spend several hours just waiting to get into the Vatican, coliseum or the Vatican museum, let alone the other countless monuments. |

Forget Rome, one day isn't enough and there are too many tourists! I was there last month, but went for 6 days, which gave me plenty of time to do the touristy things as well as scout potential photo opportunities to return early one morning when it wasn't bedlam! Don't get me wrong, rome would alway's be my first choice, but I honestly think one day isn't sufficient, unless you've been before and have a photo in mind! Definately put it on you're list of places to visit before you die though!
Hope that helps!

Absolutely right, forget Brussels, Antwerp is real nice, even for a 1-day-stay. I'd recommend 2 or 3, though. |

Too late I already booked Rome. :(
I really have a day and a half. I might just choose one or two places to go. Defenetily the Vatican. I might also do the colliseum. I might have to go back sometime :)

I have another question, do the canon battery chargers that come with the camera work on european sockets? |

Yes on the battery chargers; you'll just need inexpensive little socket adjusters.
I think you made the right choice on Rome - I love Brussels (and the food), and agree you certainly won't "do" Rome in a day, but I doubt you expect to. Rome is by far my favorite city I've ever visited, and just walking around it is a mighty fine way to spend a day.
Have fun! |

No sad faces allowed. You're going to Rome! I agree, one day (did I read that right?) is not enough. If I had only one day there, I'd spend half the day at the Vatican (got to see the Sistine Chapel) and the other half just soaking up local color (people, food, fountains, architecture).
EDIT: You might want to pick up a "rough guide" or "lonely planet" type travel book.

I've been to Rome and Brussels, Rome has so much more to do and see. I was there for 3 days and it wasn't enough!! It just means I'll have to go back again some time :)
I recommend choosing some of the sights and just enjoying part of Rome rather than rushing round trying to do it all. If you go to the Colosseum I recommend going to one of the guides, it cost us 10 euro extra but we jumped the queue so well worth it!
Avoid some of the more main streets and look for cafe / restaurants slightly off the beaten path as they are better value and better food!!
If you are going for the architecture then you will not be disappointed, there are buildings and history all over the place. Vatican city will take a couple of hours queuing to get in so only go if you have loads of time. We hired the same guide as the Colosseum (you don't queue jump here though) and we are not normally guide type people but found it was so much more interesting knowing what we were looking at!
Brussels is great for a short trip, nowhere near as much to see but a nice city, especially if you like sampling the different beers.
Barcelona is awesome as well, second fav city ... all the Gaudi architecture is just superb.
