It is (or was, or started life as) a photograph and could be an interesting discussion about the message and all that.
//pleaseenjoy.com/project.php?cat=1&subcat=&pid=67
But it might as well start in rant, so that nobody has to move it |

I heard that the hidden agenda for this project was to give Jeffrey Levy something new to photograph...

1. The USA is a Christian Nation founded by Christians. It's laws are based on Christian morals and values. All Christians believe in the freedom of religion and are tolerant of all belief systems in so far as they do not violate the laws of this country. You have a perfect right to do as you please. You have that right because it is a Christian nation founded by Christians.
2. I don't appreciate you denigrating my (and I'm sure many others here at DPC) beliefs by referring to what is obviously supposed to be a Christian symbol of the suffering of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ as a cell phone tower.
3. I would defend your right to make these statements no matter how completely innacurate or plain offensive they are.
Have a nice day!

Good luck with your mantra. Rewriting history is a lot of work. |

Absolutely brilliant! In 9 words you completely crushed the argument of a christian nation. Nice work. |

1. Yes, I agree with you, to an extent. Fifty years ago, I would have called America a Christian country. To me, a Christian country is one that would be predominantly Christian and would support a Christian worldview. It would also be a country whose citizens act Christ-like, whether they adhere to a Judea-Christian set of beliefs or not. To call ourselves a Christian nation, is in my opinion, naive, and a touch self-righteous. Our nation, as a whole, does not act Christ-like. We do not deserve to be called a Christian nation because we do not act like Christ.
2. Calm down. I wasn't denigrating anything. You've not been here long, so you obviously don't know my stance on things that are Christian. You can start by reading my profile. Next, you can do a bit of research. Within 50 miles of my house there are at least two cell phone towers that churches/religious institutions have allowed to be erected on their property. Guess what shape they are? And from what I understand, unless it has changed, this is true across the country. The picture linked to looks almost exactly like one of the towers near here. Thus, my statement "It looks like a cell phone tower."
3. Thank you for your defense. However, it is not necessary in my case because my statements were neither inaccurate or offensive. To say either is to not be looking at the evidence and to be carrying your religion on your sleeve. If that statement, made by a Christian offends you, I strongly recommend that you never get between some of the crossfire in the rant forum with scalvert/achoo/matthew, etc. |

ROFLMAO.
Sorry Art.
This symbolization would put the US on the same level as any Muslim country. Fanatical to the end.
I live way north from most of you but I am getting really frightened by the evident fanaticism that is growing in the US. Are we regressing toward the middle ages?

50 years or so ago was when all the 'under god' and 'in god we trust' sort of things were added, too. Mostly for political not religious reasons though.
Still, only 50 years ago.
Most of the founding colonies seemed to be formed with the basis of freedom from religious persecution of their own particular beliefs. Most of them certainly were far from tolerant of other belief systems, in fact, most were downright hostile to any other points of view, having been on the wrong end of that in the past and wanting to be left alone or at least be in charge, now.

just for clarity, that is not my quote. I made the statement to the effect that 50 years ago I would have called it a Christian nation, but not now.

was what I was trying to pick up :) The 'in god we trust' and 'under god' phrases seemed to have mostly been added in response to Communism from what I can tell. |

Cross-posted from the "Quotes" thread:
While traveling in India one year, Norman Cousins found himself talking with a Hindu priest named Satis Prasad who expressed his desire to visit America to work as a missionary. Cousins assumed that he planned to convert Americans to the Hindu religion. "Oh no," Prasad explained, "I would like to convert them to the Christian religion."
"The people of your country may claim they believe in Christianity," Prasad declared, "but from what I read at this distance, Christianity is more a custom than anything else. I would ask that either you accept the teachings of Jesus in your everyday life and in your affairs as a nation, or stop invoking His name as sanction for everything you do." |
