I use AVG and SpySweeper and have had no problems in about 18 months since I got them.

I got them all from Download.com

Anyways, now that I'm no longer a Norton user, what do you suggest?

Avast
Free for personal use, online scanning available, and in the years that I have been using it, I've NEVER had a problem.
Virus definitions update automatically, often a couple times in one day, and the firewall works without a glitch.

I'll go with Brad (Especially as he like VW's...) and say Avast.
I've been using it for years now and I (touch wood) have not had any issues.

Check with your service provider. Mine offers free mcafee.

I use NOD32 and find it a lot faster and less intrusive than Norton.

ZoneAlarm gets good reviews Never used it though.

AVG Antivirus. They make a free version that works great and a pay version with some extra perks. I went to it about 5 years ago when MacAfee gave me similar license renewal headaches.

I use Adaware and Spybot S&D for spyware protection and removal.

One of the best security measures is to ditch internet explorer and use Firefox, Opera, or one of the other alternatives. Make sure you turn off third party cookies in your browser, and add a script blocking extension. I can provide more detail on how to do those if needed.

I agree with yospiff, AVG is the way to go.

I second that. AVG is good stuff, and Firefox has a great ad blocking system.

If you're having trouble finding AVG free version, use the below link.

i've used both AVG and Avast for more years than i care to mention. I switched to Avast after finding it, and find it updates itself a little easier and its caught everything that has come near my computer, plus a few that weren't (i have a friend who's emails it thinks is a virus)

You're more than welcome to come over, and see how it works to see if you like it
