I ordered my 50mm 1.8 from B&H, everthing i read says it was a no brainer for the price. I can't wait!

Sucks the AF won't work on my D40 :-/ But I figure thats just one more thing to help nudge me into d200/d300 territory :)

You'll love it even without AF. Wait till you see the DOF range you will get. Try it on a portrait and you'll see great bokeh in the backgrounds.

have fun.

You should love it, for the price it is an awesome lens.

It's a good thing you put a "gl" in the subject title, otherwise I'd suspect you and (ex)Governor of New York, Eliot Spitzer were in cahoots! LOL!

Anyway, good luck with your new lens!

LOVE that lens. Picked it up for $140 and I'm hooked on it. It's RAZOR sharp at about f/2.8 and it makes really cool bokeh, especially if you use an extention tube with it. I took this of my own eye and the sharpness and detail (partially because of the HDR) is fantastic. Good luck with it!

Casey, congrats on the new lens. Unbeatable lens for the price. Here's another sharpness example combining the D300 and the 50mm f/1.8. This is a crop of a photo taken handheld under fluorescent light.

WARNING: this photo contains giant pores, nose hairs, and other sexy details. :-)

Also, to see the crop full-sized (3.3mb), click on the little magnifying glass/"View full-sized image" link to the left of the image.

I recieved it Saturday, and have had fun playing with it. My first challenge using it is in Environmental portraint.

One thing i learned quick...i simply CANNOT focus properly when i'm wearing my glasses :( Only works with my contacts.

Guess I have to get a new glasses prescription.
