Bill Clinton was giving a campaign speech just a few miles from home, so I thought it would be fun to take my 9-year-old daughter since he was in office when she was born.

We lucked out and managed to be very close to the front of the crowd, and I got tons of decent shots. Afterwards, people were actually helping my daughter squeeze to the front as he came around to shake hands and so forth. So while he was shaking hands with people (I shook his hand, too) he was holding my daughter's hand for a while. For a moment I couldn't help thinking, "Geez, I hope he's not hitting on her!" But I figured with the security dudes around, it probably wouldn't have been a good idea to raise a fuss about it :)

Anyway... thought I'd share, since there's no current challenge called "Former Presidents" or anything (although I suppose I could have shoe-horned it into "Pollution" to the delight of Republicans, I guess):

I once shook Spiro T. Agnew's hand. Just a VP.

I have a few George Washington's. Does that count?

Nice shot and congrats.

Never shook hands with a President but was able to get close to Regan and Carter.

I just got done showing my daughter the episode of The Simpsons where President Clinton and Bob Dole were abducted by aliens. I don't think she had a real grasp on just how famous he was until she realized he was portrayed as a Simpsons character...

Ah, to be 9 again.

Ha! That's hilarious. Really good photo!
The closest I've ever been to U.S. Presidents was watching their motorcades pass by, once for Richard Nixon and once for Bush Jr. Nixon was sitting up in a convertible and waving, Bush Jr. was behind tinted glass. However, I was standing on Broadway and 50th Street that day Mikhail Gorbachev stopped his motorcade and got out and waved to everyone. I wasn't close enough to get a good look, though I could see the top of his famous head! :-)

I once lived in D.C. about a block from where President Reagan was shot. I wasn't home at the time of the incident but it was kind of amazing to see all the neighborhood buildings on the nightly news. Living in D.C. is like living in a fishbowl with all of the politicians. They are forever passing you on the street.

Nice photo, by the way.

The only ex-president I met was Carter at a book signing for 'The Hornet's Nest'. As far as other leaders, I was in Italy back in the 80's and could not figure out what the huge crowd was all about. In fact, it was rather frustrating since I had to work my way through the square. It wasn't until later that I found out that Pope John Paul was speaking in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the ascent of Mont Blanc. Ooops.

Touched has so many slang definitions. I thought by the title you had picked his pocket, or maybe just borrowed some money from him. ;-)

I went to school with the son of the Prime Minister and the son of the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia.

My sister almost met Senator John Glenn when she was taken to Washington by the people she was staying with in Ohio, who were friends with him.

It's always better to wash your hands after having to touch a politician or a used-car salesmen (less so the salesmen) :-/

I was close enough to Queen Elizabeth to touch her, but one does NOT do that!

Very cool shot, though :D

Back in the 60's, my uncle was hitchhiking in Pacific Palisades and President Reagan (not President at the time obviously) picked up my uncle and drove him home. This was when good ol' Ronnie was living a few streets away from my grandparents in the Palisades.

And a lady at my work used to be one of Reagan's assistants in the 90's...very cool stories from her about him.

It is neat to have some connection with former Presidents.

I once attended a private birthday party for Teddy Kennedy's son, and he and his wife showed up unannounced. That was pretty fun. For those of you not familiar with him, he's a longtime U.S. senator and JFK's baby brother.

My Dad's company once helped George H.W. Bush when he was VP. Apparently they'd left his speech back in DC, and my Dad had one of the few fax machines then. He still has the thank you note.

My father-in-law once had a date with Elizabeth Dole, and my mother-in-law once had a date with Michael Dukakis.

I'm just famous in so many ways. ;)

Especially if its the hand he uses to "smoke" his cigars with.

You could have easily entered it, as is, in blurry mess.LOLOLOLOL! Or you could have blurred him and might have ended up looking like Dubya!

Congrats to both of you Alan. Nice photo too. I like the color coordinated bracelet and tie LOL.
The "Presidente" of the Dominican Republic was at one of our watermelon launches about a year ago. He said that he enjoyed our air cannon.

He is on the trigger rope. That's Yakatme, Robert in front of the truck.

Always good to be able to meet those in the history books.
Got your self a good shot there Alan. I'm sure your daughter was jazzed to meet someone that famous.

Edited to remove personal negative comments about the guy.

Cool pic, Alan. Not a fan of slick willie, but wouldn't pass up an opportunity to snap a pic of him hitting on a 9 year old either. ;-)

Closest I ever got to a prez was the grassy knoll. oops, did I say that?

Good work Alan. Welcome to the "touched a president" club. Though strictly speaking I'm not in it, since JFK wasn't president when I shook his hand after a campaign thing in San Diego, way back when I was a HS student. Dang, but he was a handsome man... Or am I wearing rose-colored glasses in my old age?

Perhaps you'd want to torch a president? ;-)
