"Digital Photography Challenge" or "Digital Photography Side Challenge" website?
"DPL" was holding many photographers busy with regular DPC challenges. "FSM" is now trying to hold the second place for that IMO second place Posthumous awards and 3rd DPC Olympics.
The reason? I think there is more than one reason for this, but whatever the reason is, this website started to split in many parts. That also might explain the reduction of regular entries (I think)
Is it good or bad? I don't know. Maybe DPC needs side challenges, and maybe many of them... But most of them done by other people, using external spreadsheets and calculation, and voting systems(!)
(Thinking: Maybe I should have my new website with this idea, and have everyone start their own contests with centralized db for images and calculations... yeah, super :)

Why don't you just go and start YOUR website instead of starting new threads discussing you starting new websites. The Internet is a big ole' place; there's room for you. Go for it! |

Focus,
what is your major malfunction here. All you do is stir shit every single day by repeating yourself every single other post you do.
We all know where you stand and what you want to do,
so go do it. =)
Edited cos I forgot the little smiley face that makes everything OKAY

I know. But why are you so bothered about me? and my threads?
and why are you so hursh on your words? "Stirring shit?" You called our, paid members ideas and comments "Shit?", even if I start same conversations many times... trust me, SCs would take action before you if needed, and I don't have problem with that :/ |

it is an expression, not calling anyone shits. It means that you get a stick and you stir and stir the same thing over and over again, just to provoke the same things over and over again. =) |

I didn't mean it in a "leave and don't let the door hit you" kinda way. It was meant as an encouragement to do what you want to do, feel you need to do, or dream about doing. |

Sorry =)
I think I just want to keep the subject little more active, actually as much as possible. Because I know that, many people are thinking like I do. I am not too crazy starting my own website with same stuff here... I am happy here, but I would like to see some changes, and I think saying that out loud, even repeated, is not bad thing... might be annoying, but I do listen others complaint here many times... that's something we as "people" do often :) because we "people" like changes, it's in our genes :) |

Thanks :)
If you keep us busy here, and happy... no one needs to go anywhere. And I think my annoying threads just trying to point somewhere you to look at and see if you are missing something... Not calling you blind, but sometimes we need a hand to pull our face to other direction to show what we don't see :) |

I understand your point of view Focus.
But see it from another view, literally EVERY single thread so far even unrelated has you saying hte same thing over and over again.
It is like you are ramming it down peoples throats, sometimes 'less is more'.
A well thought out post explaining your thoughts and actions, and having a conclusion, is better recieved. Have an 'end' product for people to see and look at and be a part of, rather than just talking about it.
Show 'your' people your end product. |

Personally I think it is a fantastic idea that members here can add their own perspective to the challenge competitions and even better if they can incorporate their own web-sites, spreadsheets to the normal challenges.
This allows members to become more active in their own personal way to how the site operates. All these side challenges allow for more creativity and greater involvement.

If I have the knowledge, I would help to Langdon to create the code to do other changes... If I had extra money, I would give him to do those changes... My knowledge and money is limited. I will start something, as website, it won't be as sophisticated this one... DPC is already running, all it needs to change some parts, add some parts to keep some (if not most) happy.
I will say this, and remind me if I don't keep this, this could be the last time I bring this up. I may reply to other similar posts, but I don't think I will start a new one.
Hopefully you will see the end product this summer, since I am working two jobs, like many, I have "time" problem :) (Langdon is looking at me right now "Yeah, you got that right, now you know my problem too") |

my 2 statistical cents: there is no reduction of regular entries (see graph below with every challenge since inception and last 20 challenge moving average)

I do see slight drop. I think you missing the big picture here though. My argument is not reduced entries ;)
Since I did post too many threads, you all should know what my point is :)
(My threads have a point. They are not pointless by the way)

The best thing about this site is you can participate in several ways, some people like the side challenges so people do not but no one is ever forced to participate. For me I do not look at this being problem but people start new web sites everyday because they can do it better, then people leave the new sites to start their improved site, it's human nature to always have what is on the other side of the fence rather than just enjoying what they have. If you decide to start your own site I wish you luck and who knows I may even drop in from time to time. |

I've honestly never been a fan of the side challenges, but I don't see a point in discouraging them either. I've never participated in a single side challenge, the DPL, and so forth. For me, those challenges don't really hold any interest.
At the same time, they go on all the time, and that's fine by me. There's nothing about their existence that really takes away from my experience here, and unless I purposely wander into threads about them, I don't even know about them... so why be bothered by them? |

Well, it did seem like part of your point anyway. Following from the OP.

Great point. I don't see them taking away from the main challenges at all. If anything, the side challenges may encourage more participation for some, as the participants gain confidence from the additional feedback and practice. |

The question here is, why start one? I know they are not problems. I prefer to enter to DPC challenges, and DPL since they are "official" challenges here...
I see the point some of you make, why even bother to start an argument like this one. Things going well, so just join or not but get on with it... true... although since I like DPC, I hate to see falling apart in the future. I don't want to be the reason, but at least I can do is to bring up what might be going wrong, or point my finger that way. As I said, sometimes people needs an extra hand to turn their chin to the other side to see things that might be important.

Good don't start another one!!!
Let's look at it from a logical perspective......have I got this right??...you have no money or knowledge for creating a web site but you want to create one because you are not happy here??
So where do you go from here?? From my point of view you can either move on or stay and accept the place which also means you need to stop complaining all the time or you can raise some money and create your own site.
Your choice do what you think is best.
