Holy! I have entered 48 challenges. 38 of those since March 2007! Apparently I have become addicted to this place.

Poser! Wannabe! Slacker! Amateur!
You've been here since June of '04 and you've entered 48?????
I've been here since August of '06 and entered 82.
Now there's obsessive/compulsive behavior!

Oh, for fuck's sakes, I'm fed up of this. Comment on my Tilted entry: "For a photo to score well here at DPC, there has to be "pop" to the entry. This is just a snap-shot level photo of (x)". I'm sorry the Northern lights aren't showing. I do like the picture though. And "snapshot" is going a bit far, imho.
By all means, I've committed one of the cardinal sins of DPC, but really. I'm fed up of listening to what will do well here. I don't care what will do well here. I care about the shots, I care about the inspiration, I care about learning. I don't care about what makes a picture "pop" to DPC taste. A picture not "popping" to DPC taste doesn't make it a snapshot.
*breathes deeply* Rant over. Carry on. |

Wouldn't have thought I'm good enough, but at least they're looking for something. |

Jelena, imagine me holding your hand and looking at you with sympathetic eyes. Keep up with those deep breathing exercises. :) And, please, don't leave!

Yes, I've tried to discuss this phenomenon before. Many people are voting based on what they think the average voter will like, instead of simply deciding for themselves if they like an image. It's a force for conformism that I find rather horrifying. |

6 word bio... God, that's hard... Ever heard of the philosopher's curse? It involves not being able to express anything in less than a thousand words...

Yeah, it is actually :) Heh, and you reminded me of this picture:
I'll start unpacking again, shall I? :)
But in all seriousness - it's mostly Team Suck that's keeping me here. It's not the only place for learning or competitions. And often it's rather harsh. But then, we've got such a nice, homely, warm barn, and I couldn't possibly leave that, now, could I :)
And that illustrated word thread's been keeping me pretty inspired recently too :) There really is lots of amazing people here, that's the thing... |

Well, it's been many years since I breathed that rarified air, but I still know the secret handshake. :P
If you prefer, think of mainstream DPC as Plato, and Team Suck as Aristotle... |

Team Suck must be Leonard Cohen. Dunno what that makes DPC though! |

I will admit I am guilty of pointing out that shot has no "pop" but usually in conjunction with why I like it anyway - it's my way of letting people know I like the shot but that DPC voters on average may not. I have one in now that is like that - no DPC "wow" value. Quiet, pleasant, but no pop. Commenters seem to really like it. I like it. Not gonna win any prizes, though.
onexposure.net is sorta juried, kinda. They screen for admission. Not just your first shot, but apparently all of them. There are some talented folks there. I'm too chicken and too lame with post processing to even make the attempt, but do let us know if you get on over there! |

Just entered a real art competition.
Okay, it doesn't sum up my life, just tonight's work. :)
23rd Chelsea International Fine Art Competition
I'm 100% sure nothing will come of it, and those of you who know real art can feel free to tell me exactly why. Maybe I'll learn what to enter next time! But here's what I did enter (you get 5 photos for $35):
Oh, and I've entered 162 challenges since June '06. Don and Deb have me beat by a mile.
Jelena, the assumption is that you want to score well. I'm not saying that's how you oughtta be, but it's definitely the assumption by commenters. So they're trying to be helpful.
Lea, congrats on the wedding!
