I think his son is still on the island. Jack was surprised when no one came to funeral if it was Ben you would not be surprised that no one was there. No one would be at Ben's funeral besides Ben is a key to the whole story he will be there right until the end with Jack. |

I am really surprised at the underlying hostility towards Ben.
Have none of you even considered that he really may be one of the good guys? That he is NOT a liar? He is a manipulative little weasel and a mass murderer, but perhaps he is far more in tune with the island than we give him credit for. Perhaps he is just as Lost as Locke when it comes to doing what he thinks needs to be done and uses that internal fear and insight to hound Locke as well.
Just a thought. I think we are not giving the others (especially Ben) enough leeway. |

I don't think Ben is as good as you think. He just understands the Island better than everyone else. I mean he has been there since he was like 12 or something. You also have to remember that he held Juliette against her will after her 3 year term with Ben on the island. If Ben killed everyone on the island when he was young how did all the other people get to and on the island???
I bet that Ben was holding them as well. My question is, what is the story behind Nestor Carbonell playing as Richard Alpert aka. Frank Duque (Cane on CBS)
Anyway How did he get on the Island and what is his story to Ben besides being an outsider and basically recruiting Ben to be the leader.

there is no hint that desmond makes it of the island.
and the title of the michael centric episode (#8), suggests that he changes his name and identity and doesn't become a famous member of the 'oceanic 6', which makes sense considering what he did on the island.
my guess for the 6 are:-
jack, kate, hurley & sayid (confirmed) and the korean 2.

I agree, it probably is michael in the coffin, especially after what dain said above, about michael changing his name and not living in the 'spotlight'. It would make sense b/c what we can see of the name on the newspaper clipping definetly couldn't say michael...

uh... we know for a fact that desmond makes it off the island. he's on the boat right as of last week... ;)
and as for ben, i've said before that locke is becoming ben (scared, unsure, using most any means to get what he thinks he needs to understand the island...) save for this one distinction: ben generally hates people while locke generally likes people

| Ok, I'm backtracking. Who is Michael again? I swear, I need to just lock myself in a room and watch all of the episodes, but then I might get lost in the space time continuum and DPC wouldn't exist and it would be 1996 LOL |

Just because he is on the freighter doesn't mean he gets off of the island....Jack and Kate aren't on the freighter and they do indeed get off, so I imagine it could go both ways, I'm not saying I think he definetly doesnt get off (lord knows he wants to see penny more than anything) I'm just saying we don't know he does for a fact. |

We are debating the wrong thing we don't know if desmend gets off the island point is if he did chances are Penny would have visited him if he was in that coffin. I mean they broke up he left her heartbroken and she still went looking for him for three years on that island. So whatever he does from here on in my guess even if he does piss her off for whatever reason she would still go to the funeral.
My sad prediction for whos in that coffin and people are not going to like it

We know that hes working for ben which might rip ties with the other oceanic 6 which is why Kate says why would I go to the funeral

Since they knew he was coming after them he would have to change his name to cover that part up and yes maybe only the oceanic 6 would know that fact since it says in spoilers that season 4 is when they leave the island season 5 is why they must go back and season 6 is when they go back. So perhaps ben and sadid had been in contact with jack and kate to try convince them of the reasons to return to the island we know hurley already wants to go back perhaps we havn't yet seen something that changed Jacks mind of wanting to go back there it was seeing the death in the paper that triggered something.

hmmm, that is possible...i'm pretty sure it said that whoever was in the coffin was found hanged in their apartment though, they were basically pointing at a suicide i think ;) everything else fits though, dang! I don't want Sayid to die! |

Okay what about this...
What if it is Claire in the coffin? WE all know that Kate has Aaron but we don't know what happened to Claire. Maybe she does something pretty bad and that's why no one shows up at the funeral home. FYI someone has to die this season and I'm pretty sure it's going to be Claire.
so my guess is that Claire or Ben is in the coffin.
I also think that Jin and sun will be the last 2 to get off the island. Sun is pregnant and it would only be right if they could raise the baby together. BUT she did get pregnant on the island and we all know what happens to pregnant women. CRAP I hope Sun doesn't die this season.

| hmmmm....claire in the coffin...that actually seems to fit, I do remember hearing somewhere that the writers confirmed that it was a man, not a woman though. (then again they also said that there was no time travel) I also read in an interview with one of the writers that we do 'know' the person in the coffin, so it definetly isn't someone new. I think the Sayid theory to this is kinda logical, if he's going around killing people then he could easily be suicial, thus hang himself.....and like it was said before, maybe kate didn't want to see him b/c he is working with ben or b/c he did something terrible at some point. Just a thought though..... |

we already know from the season 3 finale that the person in the coffin is a man named john lantham(or latham... it's spelled both ways in the news paper clipping jack has...
and as i still think aaron counts as one of the six, i'd say only sun gets rescued and michael's in the coffin, using the name john lantham to hide who he is...
interestingly, john latham was an artist who developed a theory called "flat time"... remember, folks that in lost, names mean something. oh... and the wikipedia is our friend.

You know, something I don't understand yet.
In the first couple of FF's (Jack almost jumping off the bridge, visiting that funeral, meeting Kate at the airport and REALLY wanting to go back to the island) he seemed to be confused and so different from the FF a couple of episodes ago. How much time is between these two Jack's?
I assume when Jack was visiting Hurley in the mental institution, is a couple of months / years after the confused Jack...

yeah but jack told hurley after they played basketball that he was thinking of growing a beard. clearly this is BEFORE he almsot kills himself and meets kate at the airport.
AND
nestor carbonel is one of the ORIGINAL "others". . .from before Dharma and before Danielle and her crew.
so there are tons of "groups" on the island now. . . or potential groups.
1) original "others"
2) survivors of The Black Rock crash
3) Danielle's crew
4)*possibly* survivors of the drug plane crash
5) Dharma crew (of which Ben is the only survivor?)
6) Oceanic survivors
7) Boaties (or Freighties)

And Desmond. While he's not a group, he's not in one of the groups on the list.
Danielle Rousseau was part of science team that crashed there after leaving tahiti. ( //lost.wikia.com/wiki/Danielle_Rousseau )
Thinking back to the Dharma Death day...ben and the others gas the dharma people...but not all of them! See, when desmond arrives Kevin Inman is in the hatch pushing the button, and he was Dharma. //lost.wikia.com/wiki/Kelvin_Inman He dies in a struggle with desmond. So there may be more Dharma survivors.

I did forget about the dead person in the coffin being a man but I don't ever remember hearing that the name was john latham. Didn't the newspaper jus say that a man died at 4am on April 5th?
