Nice! Guess I have a reason to install Wine now.
Once I get Wine and CS installed and tested, I can finally blow away my Windows VM.

| I run photomatix and neat image in wine... haven't done anything more serious than simply testing them from time to time. They run ok. I tried to run lightroom at some point but no luck.. might try this when I have the time. I don't get my hopes high though .. I tend to crash every app at some point! |

So, other than gimp, is there any decent photo editing software for linux? Or is everyone waiting for the latest release of photoshop to grace the GPL? :)
I've been using gimp and pretty happy with it, but I'm by no means experienced in photo editing. |

That's what this thread is about - you can run photoshop CS2 on linux. Is that decent enough for you ? |

I've heard good thing about krita but I've not tried it yet. Gimp is ok, they managed some good things in 2.4.
I personaly I'm waiting for photoshop to arive in a 24" mac which was orderd in Nov, got lost in Dec. and reorderd in Jan. The local representative of apple are kind of retarded... if CS3 works ok in wine I'm might cancel it and order a shiny PC :)

| But Photoshop isn't really native to linux even when run through WINE. I would really prefer to leave Winders out of the mix. Even Winders emulation. :) |

Cool.
I run linux at home full time now, using CS3 in a VMWare Windows XP installation. Unfortunately it's not as fast as a native installation would be. WINE is supposedly faster, because as the name recursively suggests, Wine Is Not an Emulator.
I can't wait until CS3 works. I messed with it for some time a while back... Maybe this link will provide some insight for CS3 users.
Thanks for the heads up!

For anyone wondering about this, I now have Photoshop CS installed and working on Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy).
I did run into a couple installation headaches (mostly due to the fact that I was using a too-old version of WINE, but also some tweaks to WINE were needed). Once I got it installed, it's working quite well. The performance is great.

Sweet! Makes me half tempted to trade CS3 for an older version... =P Guess I still use the VM for iTunes, though. =D |
