Sorry, but new here. How do these side challenges work? where do we submit the results? Do we have to submit daily? Please explain. I would like to try some more macro shots.

Many Thanks.

TC

There will be a thread started when the challenge begins and everyone simply uploads each day's shots to their portfolio and posts to the thread with a thumbnail link to the photo. Nobody has to submit daily, although trying to, at least, is part of the challenge itself.

Thanks TeeCeeJay for asking - I had the same question, and thanks to Mr_Pants for answering. So I'll give it a try as well, although I must already admit now that I won't be able to upload a shot daily. But I like the idea!

I noticed the two people asking how this works are registered rather than members. Unfortunately you don't have a portfolio to upload to until you become a member, so unless you can link to an outside porfolio you can't participate. One of these monthly challenges is what put me over the top to spend the $25 to become a member.

ETA: I don't have a true macro lens, but I got a set of 3 close-up screw-on lenses for my camera. Oh, yeah, I got a reversing ring for the kit lens a while back also. Now that I have a 50mm prime I also got a 52mm to 58mm adapter ring so I can use all that stuff along with my other 58mm filters. I don't think I'd be able to participate daily, but I'd like to give it a try. On the previous monthly challenge I was in I used only my Canon Rebel XTi with kit 18-55 lens, yospiff, it can work.

bummer... but you can always jump back in for the last half when you get back, yes?

I'm in - just ordered the 52mm reversing ring for my Nikon 50mm 1.8 - this should be interesting (and I'm guessing it's going to get pricey... :-).

Anyone have a ringlight they'd suggest that would fit multiple lens sizes for a Nikon D300?

instead of spending the money on a ringlight (unless you just really want to, just get an extra sb-600 and shoot wirelessly. it's how i do it. in a lot of cases, you probably don't even need an extra flash...

i'd suggest getting something like a lumiquest ultrasoft or mini softbox. a small tabletop sized tripod helps as well...

Cool - I've got an SB-600 and know how to use it off-camera, as well as a mini-softbox. Thanks!

welcome to the club...

irenem is club president...

LOL! irenem's shots certainly influenced me towards getting this lens.

Quick question for anyone out there: how do you keep track of changes you make in Photoshop? Is there a way to export the history or something? Thanks!

Before I went back into the industry as a Web developer last year, I taught at two local universities here in Phoenix. Beyond web development and architecture, I taught beginning, intermediate and advanced Photoshop, Illustrator and Fireworks classes. I have a slew of information, tutorials that I could share with you.

I have often thought about making my stuff available to my friends here at DPC. If there is anything specific you are looking at beyond what the link had, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks Jim - a bunch of tutorials would likely be great - why don't you put them up on the site? I'm working my way through the new "Layers" book and it's pretty cool. It's just the "stupid, basic" stuff that gets me sometimes.

And it can be found really cheap$$$. Also it performs quite well with extension tubes for longer distance shy subjects like butterflys.

Took your advice and picked-up an old 200mm on eBay for a whopping $29 including shipping. So you are saying to put that on the camera, then reverse a lens on the end of it? I have a 50mm f/1.8 and just ordered the Nikon reversing ring - will this do? Or do I reverse the 200mm? Thanks.

Hey, can I play too? I just figured out last weekend that my new 24-70 Nikon lens is perfectly capable of taking close ups. I've been wanting to try some macro shots, especially after seeing something as amazing as Irene's Reflections ribbon winner:

Latest participants included in the list. Don't forget, everyone, that anyone can join in at any time.

I haven't done a side challenge in a while now. Count me in on this one as it'll get me back shooting more.

I love macro so I'd like to join in if it's not too late.

Added you both to the list above.

Any room for one more - although I'm not sure I would manage one every day? I need to get to grips with lighting, and concentrating on that aspect of the macros would be good discipline for me.
