... the TV show, on Lifetime.... //www.channel4.com/life/microsites/H/htlgn/index.html This is the brit version, there is an american one as well.
This show is just so cool. If you haven't seen it, please watch the clips. It focuses on helping women get over their self-esteem issues and embrace their figures. They do photoshoots with each woman showing off her best assets in the most flattering ways. A great deal of knowledge for photographers whether you photograph nudes or grandmothers at church. Every woman wants to look beautiful.

How to look good naked?
Turn the light switch on the wall to "off".

My wife and I love to watch this show. It's interesting seeing how different people are insecure about different things about themselves, yet others see the attractive things in them. |

I'm gonna have to check "On Demand" for the episodes I haven't been able to find online.

I've been DVRing (is that a verb) this show since it started! I love Carson Keeley and he really is just a great host! It's amazing to see how distorted people's (ech, and prolly my) perspectives can be. LOVE it! AND they had Jillina on the last episode, so that rocks! |

I've only caught half a show so I can't really pass judgement, but I'm torn. On one hand, "heroin chic" is a fad that needs to die a permanent death. On the other hand, we do not really need to try to educate people that they should be happy with obesity. This is where I lack experience with the show. It depends how large these gals are. Not everybody can have the "perfect body" and not everybody should (or even consider it a goal), but obesity is something that everybody should fight to avoid. So if these gals are 30% over their ideal body weight, then I think he's doing them an ultimate disservice to say, "hey, it's alright. Be happy with yourself and stay that way." They don't need to change for reasons of societal pressure to be skinny, but they do need to change for reasons of health.
Just my 0.02.

The nice part is that it isn't all about weight. Some of the... uh... guests? Subjects? Anyways, some of them have other issues, like stretch marks, small boobs, big boobs, too tall, too short, too big of hips (with small waists), etc. So they're really covering the whole gammut. Just from my experience, the larger girls that have been on the show probably fit in the 'morbidly obese' category, but it doesn't take much to get there, really. But trying to lose weight when you're feeling really bad about yourself almost never works, so, irregardless, these ladies need to be given home and some self esteem! |

I love the host!! He's a brilliant stylist and knows exactly how to accentuate their assets and cover flaws! He's also really understanding to each individual on the show...
It's not a case of being happ with obesity at all, it's more about like I stated showing them how to accentuate their best features... and I think that's the most important thing in being happy with yourself =] |

Well that makes me feel somewhat better. I fully agree that we should allow for all sorts of "shapes" and what the fashion industry considers the standard is actually freakishly abnormal. I just try to take a stand against obesity because it is pandemic in our country and is really a crisis unfolding before our eyes.

One woman's issue was that she felt that her breast were too big and that people were always looking at her chest. I think she was a 40D.
The last one I saw was this little Asian tomboy who rides a motorcycle, but felt was so self-conscious about her thighs that she'd never been to the beach. |

I think I remember that one! She was also the one who thought she was too short and treated like a kid often, right? |

Did you see the one with the mom and daughter? The daughter thought she had lumps of fat on her backside and the host said, those are bones! She was very tall and thin but felt terrible about herself.
I have tried to get my wife and 17 year old daughter to watch it for just this reason. They both have a pretty low self-image but my daughter just recently went into counseling for bulimia because she thinks she is fat cause she is 5'9 and 130lbs when all her friends are like 120 or less. (The girl is beautiful but thinks everyone is saying that cause we're family and friends) It is all about her self image and luckily she is making leaps and bounds towards feeling better (I know she will never really be over it). There is no way she would (or would be allowed) to go on the show but I think just seeing how almost all people deal with this and their self-image is skewed would help her a lot. (She can be seen here: tori's image)
When I first saw the ad for it I was worried about what it was going to be about but now I think it is a great show that could help a lot of people.
btw... |

I haven't seen that one. The Tribune data was been inaccurate around here lately (?related to the writers strike?) and a show was TiVoed that I'd already seen, but said it was the Mother/Daughter episode. :S |

Tell her that a complete stranger thinks she's absolutely beautiful just the way she is. She's got beautiful eyes and a wonderful smile. When it come to her being "fat", she has nothing to worry about. |

no offense taken, much appreciated the comment. A couple of my coworkers have said pretty much the same thing but since they are fellow sailors they get a beating when they talk about her lol. |

Sales might be slow, but curiosity would win out. |
